I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Intelligent, passionate, slightly nerdy; I can listen to Chuck Berry and Beethoven with the same amount of enthusiasm. I've worked with every species of large cat, and most of the small ones as well... I love all things medieval, and I probably know more about the Vikings than anyone should. I collect swords and am a practicing archer. Huge animal fan, vegetarian.

My Interests

music, movies, video games, reading, archery, hiking, horseback riding, traveling, ANIMALS, especially CATS

I'd like to meet:

In fantasy: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Denny Laine, Charles Darwin, George Washington, Manfred von Richthofen, Nicolaus Copernicus, William Wallace, Alfred the Great, Leo Tolstoy, Elizabeth I, Eleanor of Acquitaine, Ludwig van Beethoven, Homer, Baldwin IV, Mary Magdalene, Leif Eriksson, Beryl Markham, Carl Sagan, Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, my grandfather

In reality: anyone who is funny, intelligent, inquisitive, shares similar interests, etc. I'd love to meet other musicians and animal keepers. Question: who is the real rock star, Charles Darwin or Mick Jagger? (hint: it ain't Jagger...)

Music:

ABBA, the Beatles, Suzanne Vega, Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, Larry Graham, Smithereens, the Cars, Tom Petty....basic theme? I like the POP, folks...

I also LOVE medieval music (both secular and sacred) and classical (brass emsembles, Bach, and Beethoven)

Movies:

Lord of the Rings, Lord of the Rings, and more Lord of the Rings! Also the South Park and Monty Python movies.

I'll also go see just about any big historical epic (Braveheart, Gladiator, etc.) to see how well (or not) they recreate the arms, armor, costume, architecture, siege tactics, etc. of the period...

Television:

Wonderfalls (if you don't know what this is, get to a dvd store immediately!); My So-Called Life; South Park; Monty Python; Fawlty Towers; Blackadder; the Muppet Show; Carl Sagan's Cosmos; and virtually anything on the Learning Channel, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, National Geographic Channel, History Channel, and so on...

Books:

Kafka's Metamorphosis; Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front; anything by Poe; Tolkien's Lord of the Rings (of course); Homer's Iliad and Odyssey; anything by Euripides; as for nonfiction, I rotate between astronomy, natural history (particularly the great cats), and history books covering approximately 400 A.D. to 1400 A.D. -- with the occasional American Revolution book in the mix.

Heroes:

George Washington. When I was little, I used to try to dress up like him and forge a nation...

Max

17 years ago, I walked into a city animal shelter looking for a cat.  I had just moved to New York and had to leave my two cats at home with my parents, and I wanted a cute little kitten to accom...

Thoughts on a Hot Tin Roof

It's hot. God, it's hot. As I sit here slowly roasting in my un-airconditioned apartment this summer, I can't help but think of the Al Gore film, An Inconvenient Truth. I loved it. I think the tit...

Phoning it in, I see...

So I was in a store the other day, and this Neil Diamond song came on over the speaker system. And I was struck with the realization that I was hearing what could very well be one of the worst song l...

Trash Nation

A blog, huh? This could be dangerous in the hands of someone such as myself. There is a lot of information about Vikings and dung beetles and giant squid that I might feel the need to disseminate. ...
