Ladyfest Vancouver, BC - ViVa ZaPaTa benefit Oct 19th 2006!!

About Me

What is Ladyfest Vancouver?
www.ladyfestvancouver.com
Ladyfest originated in Olympia WA, home of the Riot-Grrl movement. It now occurs internationally, with each festival being organized, in the spirit of the original event, by small groups of independent parties. Ladyfest Vancouver is a small collective of people promoting urban feminism. Think D.I.Y in the Riot-Grrl style, and not Lillith Fair (sorry Sarah). The main goal of Ladyfest Vancouver is to promote feminist issues in our city and raise awareness of womens rights amongst young and old alike. We are hoping to dispel the myths that feminism is dead and only found amongst extremist groups. Ladyfest Vancouver offers something for everyone, whether you are an identified feminist or curious about the ideas of it.

My Interests

feminism and equality at all levels for women and men

I'd like to meet:

We are co-presenting, with RedCat Records, a benefit in the honour of Mia Zapata, lead singer of Seattle-based riot grrrl band who was raped and murdered on her way home from a show on July 7th 1993. It was over 10 years before her assailant was caught. This concert will benefit women in crisis and features the talents of Ghostmonics, La Drama, The Choir Practice, GangBang
