How To Live The Life Of Riley
The adventures of Riley began as a cocky 15 year old, blagging his way into "Boutique" parties at "the Bomb", in Nottingham. Catching his early hero, Fatboy Slim and enjoying albums like "Hello Nasty" by "the Beastie Boys" Riley developed a passion to learn DJing, explore more and more music, and use it to rock floors wherever he could! In 2001, 18 year old Riley left home to work for a charity called NGM. Based in Swansea the year was spent mainly doing youth work, teaching lots of kids to DJ and finally at the end of the year heading out to ibiza with another charity called 24/7...
Returning from Ibiza enthused Riley teamed up with good friend and Swansea promoter Jared and started the hugely successful "Rubiks Cube". Looking to start a night that gave something back Riley and Jared looked to promote drum and bass acts with all the profits going to charity. This was important as they felt it was great to do a night where the the focus wasn't themselves and also where money was not a motivation. Just good parties...
With Rubiks becoming one of the biggest d&b nights in Wales, Riley created close links with labels like Hospital bringing all of drum and bass finest to Swansea. Riley went on to play at venues all over the area. He also maintained a highly successful saturday night residency at "Monkey" in Swansea... This gave him time to hone his dj ability and gain valuable experience. Rubiks continued strongly through 2003 and 2004 and after a couple more visits to Ibiza, Riley took the opportunity to spend 4 months on sunset strip (Ibiza) as Sugar Sea resident. Guesting at Café Mambo, Savannah and La Diosa, the summer of 2004 will never be forgotten.
In 2005 Riley moved to London to join the mighty Sambalanco. Within months he had also guested at Herbal & Heaven for Hospitality and at 93 feet east for Chibuku. Also doing the rounds for wah wah 45s, Mouse Organ and spreading the Riley sound at festivals in Italy and Sweden. Following on from his earlier drum and bass promotions Riley also spends his daytimes working for Hospital Records.
These are some of the earliest highlights and a good example of the drive and enthusiasm Riley has for djing and the music scene in general. This transfers into his dj sets and as a result, the floor is always full when he plays! Aged 24 and destroying the genres playing hip hop, soul, funk disco and house. Riley is one to watch! Hes the latest addition to the Sambalanco family making it four high quality residents out of four! "Join in the life of Riley"...!?
