About Me

Mediterranean Cityscapes

Art prints by Sofia Fatima Amarchi

"The Mediterranean has the color of mackerel, changeable I mean. You don't always know if it is green or violet, you can't even say it's blue, because the next moment the changing reflection has taken on a tint of rose or gray." - Vincent Van Gogh

I'm no Vincent Van Gogh. But I paint Mediterranean landscapes. I prefer abstract and stylized depictions to realistic ones. Anyone who has ever been to that part of the world - Italy, Greece, Spain, Morocco - knows that the Mediterranean is a state of mind. No one image can truly capture its essence. Moreover, no realistic depiction of the Mediterranean can substitute for being there, for the feeling one gets when there. The Mediterranean is an emotion - an emotion one senses only when under Mediterranean sun and sky, when one feels its warmth and breathes its air. Rather than attempting to act as a false window, my paintings are an attempt to convey a feeling.

My Interests

In quest’aria densa, c’è chi ancora pensa di vedere un po’ più in là…

My web project Mediterranean-Cityscapes.com and the preview here on Myspace at..

http://www.myspace.com/mediterranean_cityscapesMy interests are history, travel, the ocean, the desert, the great unknown...

One of the greatest things in this world is watching a sun set. Some of the most incredible I've seen have been in Italy. There you stand on some high terrace or piazza overlooking the city's terracotta rooftops. As the day fades, sunlight is replaced by the light of a million stars.

Next destination is Africa, however. Morocco, but also Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, and further south as well. Inshallah, here's sending out a prayer that life will allow me to visit these lands before too long..
