REVIEWS:
OnThrough Eyes of Night, Fog have very effectively blended various styles ofBlack Metal into a very commanding, very convincing style all their own. They change tempos with total ease, and never cease to keep itinteresting. That doesn't go to say that are anything you haven't heardbefore, however there are few that can take this many aspects of it and dosomething fresh with an old sound. The production is clear, but notoverproduced. This is a highly suggested album for those looking for sometruly high quality Black Metal from the United States. Nothing new, butstill a great album none the less. (Erus Inferi)
Overall Rating: 8.5

Fog, these Americans at least do come across as moreindividual than either of their Polish labelmates. The elemental stormthat Satan summoned so that Fog could enter "In Magnificent Glory" wassomewhat too strong for Fog's own good, however, as their instrumentalattack sounds quite weak immediately after the loud thunderous sounds ofthe intro. Nevertheless, the production does have its charms, as ithighlights the interesting cymbal work and the bass lines (Ulver, anyone?). On the other hand, the fact that the instruments sound quiteseparated from each other causes a slight overload of the left channels inyour stereo -- noticeable if you are using headphones. Still, Fog'smixture of Norwegian rawness and grim, icy melodies is very effective andmusically involved, producing a very satisfactory result. Their blackmetal is entirely guitar-driven, backed by swift percussion and theaforementioned prominent cymbal work, and with some passable black raspson top. Fog achieve quite consistent atmosphere and a pleasant morosenessin their music whilst still keeping it mostly fast, and they do soespecially well during the eight and a half minute long title track. Therest of the album fully justifies its 8 out of 10 rating, but the titletrack does suggest it could have been even higher. The poorly balancedstereo may get on your nerves a bit if you insist on using headphones, butthat should not deter you from seeking this record -- even in spite of thefurther annoyance of the penultimate track being recorded at a lowervolume than the rest. (Maybe they also had problems with the duration ofSatan's possession of their souls, like Hate seem to have had. Why Foghave decided to present us with over nine minutes of elemental stormysounds at the end of this hour long record, however, is something I don'tthink even Satan himself fully comprehends -- it tends to get really oldreally fast after a minute or two, in my opinion.
Overall Rating: 8 outof 10
