About Me

California native Rebecca Jackson began violin studies at the age of five. She has performed throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, Spain, Italy, Ukraine, Romania, South Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan. Ms. Jackson received her B.M. from The Juilliard School and recently received a graduate degree from UC Santa Cruz where she studied with San Francisco Ballet concertmaster, Roy Malan. In addition to Roy Malan, she is indebted to the guidance of mentors David Arben and Lisa Sutton. In 1997 Rebecca was the first place winner of the ASTA California State Solo Competition, Junior Division. Summer 2003 Ms. Jackson traveled with The Juilliard Orchestra to Italy as the orchestra in residence at Gian Carlo Menotti's Spoleto Festival. The following summer Rebecca was invited to go abroad with Music Camp International. She pioneered a violin curriculum and introduced the beauty of music to nearly 250 Ukrainian and Romanian children. She has been soloist with the Cluj Symphony Orchestra of Romania, the Kiev Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Classical Philharmonia of California, UC Santa Cruz Orchestra, FOSJA orchestra of Puerto Rico, among others. Ms. Jackson has taken master classes with Tchaikovsky International Competition Winners Eugene Fodor and Elmar Oliveira, former concertmaster of l'Orchestre de Paris, Aimee Kreston, President of Shar Products Company Charles Avsharian, Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra concertmaster Pavel Prantl, and Pittsburgh Symphony concertmaster Andres Cardenes. She has also worked under the batons of John Adams, Jahja Ling, James Conlon, Andrew Litton, James DePriest, Otto-Werner Mueller, Luis Biava, and Krzysztof Penderecki. She is a member of internationally touring Völs String Quartet, Florida’s Sarasota Opera Orchestra and regularly performs with the San Francisco Opera. Ms. Jackson was one of three violinists to receive a full scholarship for participation in a week-intensive workshop with Cleveland Orchestra concertmaster William Preucil. Her most recent tour took her to perform at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing where many diplomats were present. Besides classical music, Ms. Jackson has performed with Luis Conte, Peter Erskine, Eddie Daniels, Patrick Williams, Allen Vizzutti, Josh Groban, among others. Recently she performed at Madison Square Garden for the Seventh Annual Latin Grammy Awards. In addition to her busy musical schedule, Rebecca remains an avid salsa dancer and has completed both the Big Sur International and Philadelphia Marathons. Founder of A Musical Gift, Rebecca Jackson originated this concert series devoted to raising funds for worthwhile community causes. To date, $100,000 has been raised. As Miss Santa Cruz County 2005 she was awarded $5,000 to help further her education. At the Miss California Pageant she was awarded another $2,000 and the "Outstanding Musician" award.
