THE WARRIORS-Eagles/Joe Walsh-In The City "And every supersonic jerk-off who jumps into the game, and every subatomic genius who 'just invented pain'; I will deny you...(repeat ad infinitum...)" I'm beautiful I wasn't born to follow, I live just for today, I don't care 'bout tomorrow. What I've got in my head you can't buy, steal or borrow. I believe in live...and let live. I believe you get...what you give. I've glimpsed, I have tasted-fantastical places. My soul's an oasis... Higher than the sun, ahhhhh yeah...higher than the sun."....................................................... ............................................................ ................ Bobby Gillespie is never irrelevant. I'll take this one down when it's not true anymore :"Your soul don't burn, you dark the sun. Rain down fire on everyone. Scabs, police, government thieves, venal psychic amputees... Parasitic, you're syphilitic. Parasitic, you're syphilitic...Swastika eyes, You got- Swastika eyes, swastika eyes, swastika eyes...Vent my spleen,I'll keep my dreams. My flesh,my bones,my soul I own. My mind's a weapon immune from infection. Blood in my eyes, my vision is clear... Parasitic, you're syphilitic. Parasitic, you're syphilitic...I see your-autosuggestion psychology, elimination policy, a military industrial illusion of democracy.Swastika eyes, You got- Swastika eyes, swastika eyes, swastika eyes."...................................................... ............................................................ .................
People who get that you can't purchase it. You're either born with it, or you're not. The rest is just smoke and mirrors and I see straight through it instantly. All substance, no subterfuge. I love people who are secure enough in their coolness to admit that they're just fucking dorks deep down. I love soft, cuddly, snuggly things and sharp, pointy, scary things. And people. I have a heat-seeking device that finds the soft cuddliness under the pointy scariness. But I don't make a point of using it.--------------------------------------------------------- ---------- And now, here's a RIDICULOUSLY cute youtube gem...from happier times: "AXL AND IZZY-BEST FRIENDS"... SONIC REDUCER- Dead Boys
This is too extensive to even bother with anymore, but my band is making me do this, so here goes.Let me consult the pod. Starts with 1 A.M. by the Beautiful Creatures and ends with Ziggy Stardust by, um...that Bowie guy. Right about in the middle you've got the Magnetic Fields, Manic Street Preachers, Marvin Gaye, Mazzy Star, MC5, Mel Torme, Miles Davis, Ministry, The Misfits, Motorhead and My Bloody Valentine.K ? NOW,refer to "heroes."
Hedwig. I would prefer to have those spawn (refer to "Television") with Stephen Trask's DNA, even if I'm a girl and he thinks I'm icky. Hand over that specimen cup, baby. Magnolia, everything Christopher Guest has ever done or even thought about doing, anything involving Steve Buscemi, The Coppola Family's work. They know from atmosphere, and DAMN, with her music to scene choices, Sophia can make me think I'm having out-of-body time travel experiences. Every song in every scene involving Trip Fontaine in The Virgin Suicides, leading up to that astounding makeout scene in his car was ripped from my life, and ripped my heart out in the process. AND she used Bill Murray for Lost in Translation, and he should probably be in every movie, all the time. Mr.Mom, Raising Arizona, ("If you think round is funny"), Silence of the...you know, Bowling for Columbine, The Misfits, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, Swimming With Sharks, Decline of Western Civilization Part II; the Metal Years...I'm leaving out a BUNCH of stuff. Y Tu Mama and All About My Mother were rad. NAPOLEON DYNAMITE. 3 times BEFORE the bonus scene was added and going for more...And almost anything at Sunshine is good, and Kym and I now travel with our own purse sized versions of that damn popcorn seasoning powder they have.
FINDING OUT TRUE LOVE IS BLIND- Louis XIV
THE LEDGE-The ReplacementsJ.T.LeRoy's (fraudulent-ass) stuff. Ava's Man by Rick Bragg, 'cause it's basically the story of my daddy's childhood in Arkansas-before he chose/was forced to became a bad-ass teenaged Marine in WWII, then studied art and taught himself everything he'd missed by amassing a huge library, THEN turned himself into a high roller on sheer wit, all the time harboring the barely concealed soul of a poet (maybe I should write the sequel). Sorry about the tangent. Ummm, I dunno; Please Kill Me is great 'cause I learned a lot of new stuff about people I know and the rest of it is fascinating, too. Marilyn Manson's autobio.is pretty great, as are most rock bios. Stuff like "Lies My Teacher Told Me"about the myths and misinformation taught in American History classes - and paranoid conspiracy related stuff. "A Massive Swelling" by Cintra Wilson because it's funny as hell and smart and exposes the bullshit of celebrity. Cynthia Heimel for the same reason, but mostly on the topic of love, in particular"Get Your Tongue Out Of My Mouth,I'm Kissing You Goodbye." and "If You Can't Live Without Me, Why Aren't You Dead Yet ?". Not to get all American Lit, but Steinbeck was great, especially "Travels With Charley" where he crosses America with a winnebago and his dog(uh,Charley). "No Cure For Cancer" by Dennis Leary . Need I explain ? Pamela DesBarres books about screwing rock stars ( legit or self-proclaimed )- a favorite topic of mine.I t's funny because I'll be feeling smug and thinking she sounds stupid, then I'll read some old journal entry and be like "Oh,for Christ's sake-I sound just like her !" Stuff like " Life Is So Good" by George Dawson. Grandson of Texas slaves, the dude worked hard for probably not a lot of money his whole life,l earned to read at 98, wrote the book at 101. Damn.
R.I.P.THE VERVE. My love will never die. (I love that band so much I'm willing to be melodramatic for them). And leave Mad Richard alone...he's happy, you miserable twats !Now, in the interest of not abusing the word hero, since there are legitimate ones out there, the following are the "heroes-in-quotation-marks" of my little world: All of the local musicians I know and love profoundly, and all the "little" touring bands busting their asses to save me from having to ever watch MTV"1" or listen to the radio. No politics, just alphabet; The Afterparty, Ambulance Ltd, A Place to Bury Strangers, Bad Wizzizard, Backyard Babies, The Breakup, BRMC, The Cooper Temple Clause (who knew?)(and now: RIP), The adorable and loveable Datsuns, Dead Combo, The Detroit Cobras, Delays, The Dickies, D4, The Everyothers, The Gaza Strippers, GSX, The GunShys, The Hellacopters, Mr.Jesse Malin, JSBX, The Kills, LCD Soundsystem, The Libertines, The New Professionals, Pisser, The Ponys, The Rapture, The 22's, Turbonegro, the Vacation and, of course, Violator, The Warlocks, Whitey and the Wildhearts ! There. That's a start.
