About Me

Sonata No. 2 - IVThis sonata is derived from one of the six piano sonatas Prokofiev wrote while still a student. Though none of these six sonatas were ever published, the material was reused as Prokofiev saw fit. This recording is of Sviatoslav Richter in 1965.Sonata No. 6 - IThe first of the 3 sonatas composed during World War II, it is perhaps (along with the 7th) Prokofiev's most famous work for solo piano. This was also recorded by Sviatoslav Richter in 1965.Piano Concerto No. 3 - IIn terms of famous piano concerti of the 20th century, few can compete with Prokofiev's 3rd Piano Concerto. An instant success in Chicago, where it premiered (if my memory serves), this virtuoso piece has continued to have a strong representation in the repetoire of pianists. This recording features Prokofiev himself as soloist, and though many feel his interpretation isn't the best, I felt the novelty would appeal to some. That wraps it up for now, enjoy the music, and mail any requests to me. I'll try to post them as soon as I can.-Michael
