About Me

"We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospection." -- Anais Nin

More Anais Nin:

"Each friend represents a world in us, a world not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born."

"There is not one big cosmic meaning for all, there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual novel, a book for each person."

My Interests

Writing, film, photography, TRAVEL, art, music. Daily yoga and meditation. Cultivating inner peace. Spirituality, sociology, psychology, philosophy. Animal welfare. Interior design, architecture. I love to learn. I love words. I love imagery.

I'd like to meet:

Smart, creative, curious, spiritual, cerebral types who love to laugh and know how to cry. Travelers. People without pretentions. People who are kind and tolerant, passionate and principled. People who see beauty where others might not.

Music:

Everything from alternative to rock to jazz to classical to international. U2, Coldplay, The Cure. Some opera arias bring me to tears. Ella Fitzgerald. Lounge music. The Beatles. Lisa Gerrard and Hans Zimmer. Fantasy job: Choosing music for films.

Movies:

Eclectic tastes.... Prefer drama over comedy (dry over slapstick). The Godfather. Good cop films, like Serpico. The English Patient, Immortal Beloved, Shawshank Redemption, The Pianist, Schindler's List, The Player, Mistress. Wings of Desire. Giant, All About Eve. I love a good cry.

Television:

Not much lately but... CBS Sunday Morning, House, Nip/Tuck, Project Runway. Loved Inside the Actor's Studio before they sold out with the likes of Will Smith and Meg Ryan.

Books:

Recent books: Shantaram -- long but worth it. Running with Scissors, which I suspect has about as much truth in it as another recent read: A Million Little Pieces. (Sorry, Augusten Burroughs' life could NOT have been THAT bizarre. Could it?) Currently: Eat, Pray, Love and Atlas Shrugged. (I have STACKS of books to read.) Trying to read more great fiction -- great writing is MOST important -- but love non-fiction, including dictionaries and reference books(!), spirituality, psych/sociology and stories of journeys (internal or otherwise) of people doing or experiencing amazing things.

Heroes:

My parents. And sometimes even myself.

Soul Mates

Just for the fun of it, from one of my many books of questions:If you were to define the term "soul mate," how would you do it?And, I'll add: Do you believe in soul mates?

What's your passionate pursuit?

A friend was recently discussing the concept of flow. As a writer, I have both written about flow and experienced it many times. This is when you are so engrossed in an activity you enjoy that you are...

I love this poem

I came across this poem in a newsletter I get. It reminds me of an Edward Hopper painting at first. It's somewhat sad how time, inevitably of course, passes and changes things."Service Is Our Business...

'IF' by Rudyard Kipling

Though this is not my favorite poem, I like its overall message... one that's been spouted for centuries and is still current today. To me it's about taking the higher ground without looking down on p...
