"Her voice can soar like opera and smoke like the blues ... one of the strongest voices in Detroit, or in the country for that matter." -- The Detroit Free Press
A woman with a strong drive and ambition, Jill Jack has a unique voice, with a distinct timbre that sets her apart. Fusing folk, rock and country, Jill draws comparisons to such singer/songwriters as Emmylou Harris, Sheryl Crowe, and Lucinda Williams. The intuitive sensitivity of Jill's songwriting is often compared to Woody Guthrie and even John Mellencamp.
A seasoned and captivating performer, Jill expends an incredible amount of energy on stage with her vocal athleticism and the raw emotion of her live performances. There's an honesty in Jill that people immediately identify with -- she's very real, and performs and relates to the audience with such ease.
Jill Jack has worked relentlessly for years and has risen to the elite of Detroit's music scene, building a large and loyal fan base that literally stretches from coast to coast (with her website receiving thousands of hits each week). For this singer/songwriter, performing countless shows while balancing all the risks involved between her music career and raising her daughter have really paid off. Jill has produced and released six critically-acclaimed albums (selling well over 18,000 copies), and has won 22 Detroit Music Awards for outstanding vocalist, songwriter, album, and artist across three different genres (Acoustic/Folk, Country, and Pop/Rock). Jill has garnered TEN nominations between the 2006 and 2007 DMA's, including Outstanding Acoustic Artist; Oustanding Folk Recording; Outstanding Folk Vocalist; Outstanding Folk Songwriter; Outstanding Live Performance; and Outstanding Pop Artist.
Jill grew up in Michigan, the middle of five children. Her musical tastes and interest in playing guitar were hand-me-downs from her older sisters who cultured her in the rock 'n roll of the times. From her early days of school choir and talent shows, Jill's done it all -- singing on numerous commercial jingles, movie soundtracks, headlining colleges, and sharing the stage with national acts such as Loretta Lynn, Kim Ritchey, Dan Fogelberg, Ron Block (Allison Krauss), Will Kimbrough, Pat Benatar, John Michael Montgomery, Duncan Sheik, Jethro Tull at Detroit's major music venues: DTE Energy Music Theater, Meadowbrook Music Festival, State Theater and Americana Music Conference.
In 2008, Jill will be performing at the prestigious Ann Arbor Folk Festival with the ULTIMATE line up of EmmyLou Harris, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin and many more.
Look for more music in 2008 where Jill will be releasing her Live DVD "Jill Jack...Live from the Stage" and also her "Songwriter" Acoustic Album.
"Jill Jack has all the makings of a major talent. She's got the stage presence, the voice, the ability to interpret songs passionately ... there's a lot of soul in what she does"
