About Me

Created with mySpace Profile Editor Aaron James Sorensen is the award-wining producer, writer, and director of the internationally acclaimed feature film Hank Williams First Nation.Hank Williams First Nation was Sorensen’s first film a breakthrough success in his native land, ending up as one of the top five grossing Canadian features of 2005. The film excelled theatrically in every major market in Canada and won awards at festivals throughout the USA; including, Best Picture in Washington, Best Music in Nashville, and Best Actress in San Francisco. Sorensen was bestowed Best Director honours at the 2005 AIFF Awards in San Francisco.Sorensen is the first Canadian director to have his film’s Premiere at the prestigious AFIfest in Los Angeles. Recently HWFN was nominated for five AMPIA awards; including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. Immediately following the success of his freshman hit; in 2006 Sorensen was called upon to adapt the Hank Williams First Nation story into a TV mini-series for Canadian national broadcaster APTN. Again he produced, wrote, and directed all six episodes. A new season of Hank Williams First Nation – The Series, is currently in development.Previous to his filmmaking career Sorensen was a musician, an entrepreneur, a schoolteacher, a truck driver, a roughneck, a news reporter, and whatever other interesting thing he could find to do in the pristine Peace River Country of northern Canada.A graduate of the Universities of Calgary and Alberta, Sorensen now lives on a working farm near Dixonville Alberta (pop. 72) where he is known as a mediocre but enthusiastic lead on the local curling team. Currently his talents have caught the attention of several Hollywood producers, including fellow Canadian Michel Shane (Catch Me If You Can, I Robots), and as such Sorensen is spending more and more time in Los Angeles developing new films and writing new songs. When not curling, playing guitar, or writing movie scripts, you can find him on his sailboat in Marina Del Ray reading Epictetus, and watching the films of his heroes; Truffaut, Wilder, and Lubitsch. In addition to his filmmaking career Aaron has always been an active singer/songwriter and in 2008 is releasing his first CD of original songs since the invention of the CD, entitled Cranberry Wind.
