Mark Sawasky’s World Percussion

Mark Sawasky is a multi-instrumentalist whose passion for unique percussion has led him to the music of many cultures. Known for his expertise at authentic styles, Sawasky specializes in the complex rhythms and rare time signatures of Africa, Eastern Europe, and Asia.Sawasky’s roots in music run 30 years deep and embrace everything from Greek, Arabic, North African, West African, Afro-Cuban, Latin, Spanish, Albanian, Gypsy, Klezmer, and Balkan styles. He has contributed to jazz, classical, folk, pop, rock and avant-garde collaborations. He is exceptional at combining and layering traditional and contemporary sounds.Career highlights include 16 years as a recording artist, having appeared on seven different labels. A founding member of the original world music group Immigrant Suns, he is an active composer, teacher, and performer.
