it's a dirty job...but someone's gotta do it

About Me

I first heard dance music at Mastrick Community Centre, North Aberdeen in the 80's. D-Mob had just been released and a bunch of casuals were all dancing about with white gloves and smiley face t-shirts. Me and my friend got called casual one and casual two by our new found elders and for that we were honoured.Things moved on and I became hooked on The Shamen records my Dad had bought me. Was also into 808 State and Warp T-Shirts were the in thing. Was also into my rock and indie music and have an ace collection of Washtington DC and Seattle 80's punk/rock. Ride and the Inspiral Carpets were also a big bands for me.Went to my first Shamen and Prodigy gigs in the early 90's and then started getting into clubs 95'. Before that I looked to young and was more into tripping and hanging about parks. The big clubs in Aberdeen were Glider, The Pelican and The Mudd Club. On moving to Glasgow 96' started going to Slam, Pure, Tangent, Test and Aquaplanet. Also got my first set of Decks and started mixing at parties. I was for the next three years always at some party or another DJing or just dancing about. Went to Tresor in Berlin for the first time in 97' to see UR...was excellent.Moved back to Aberdeen to do my Degree in painting 99' and soon enough got back into the swing of the party scene. Played at the occasional Bijou gig and was sometimes summoned down to Glasgow to DJ. Became a monthly resident at Lava 2002 and then Kef when it's changed name. Then moved to a monthly night at The Subway (former Pelican Club). There I booked guests such as Funk d' Void Soma Records, Richard Grey Swag Records, Laid Back Luke Mix Mash Records and some local Scottish acts. After gaining my degree, I did a few exhibitions and sold some work down in London. My degree show was taken to London by a gallary. Moved back to Glasgow soon after and started up Syntax again with DJ Jace. There we booked Derrick Thompson Soiree Records and Nathan Coles Wiggle Records; however one loan later, an eviction and redundancy looming I decided to stick with my home town, take my small fortune and get my ass back up the road. Also played a load of other places during that time, such as Club 69, Universal, The Loft, Osmosis, Bar Warhol, 13th Note, Rio Cafe, Bar Bloc and various out door parties.I'm now working as a Press Officer for a group of Industry web-sites and also working as a Sales Manager for another electrical cable web-site. Mainly marketing, sales, day-to-day tasks such selecting good press and contacting clients. So far so good. I have just done another night at Cafe Drummonds and will hopefully be doing more of the same in the future.Been writing my own tracks for 3-4 years now and have been classically trained on the guitar as well as singing and writing my own guitar songs. Also...just signed a contract for a release on Terry Mitchells label Dark House Music. And have done various remixes for other artists and collaborated with a few.I'm always up for DJing here, there and everywhere...but not for free these days.
