I was fortunate enough to be born at the right time.I left school at 15 in 1976 and it couldn't have been better. I spent all my time and energy getting to see bands all over the country. My mother still doesn't know that i hitched everywhere (shhh!!! don't tell her). How the hell we got anywhere in the days without the internet or mobile phones is amazing. It was all down to reading the gig guide every Thursday in the NME and word of mouth.I spent a lot of time in Birmingham ,Barbarella's was my favourite local venue I saw all the bands worth seeing there(which is where i fell in love with the Clash) and met some of the greatest people along the way and had just the best time! Some i still see from time to time. Sadly I am old enough to 'swear I was there' but on the other hand I would not change anything. I am bemused how people seem to remember such fine details of those times as from what I recall everyone back then was always completely pissed! Growing up in the mid 70's taught me the Punk DIY ethic i have continued in this vein . During the Thunderbirds drought of Christmas 1991 i made a Tracy Island for my son Joe (i wonder who he was named after??). Taking my lead from the very best that Blue Peter had to offer at the time, i produced a masterpiece that has stood the test of time.Motto in life 'work to live Not live to work'

Heroes can be hard to find, but whoever we decide to put on a pedestal, will find that it has three legs and one of them is a bit wobbly.
