Marie Haddad - Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen)
..
November 9, 2007 - Nasr and I perform on KUSI's Inside San Diego TV show!
"A Beautiful Road" - my first full-length CD! The 12 songs on this CD were recorded at the delightful Kitsch-n-Sync Production Studios in San Diego and feature the talents of Nasr Helewa (Down with Leo, ex-Rookie Card) on drums/percussion, Jason Hee (the Buzzkill Romantics, Billy Midnight) on bass and guitar, and the recording wizardry of Sven-Erik Seaholm (the Wild Truth). Also making very appreciated appearances on the CD are Bart Mendoza (the Shambles, Manual Scan), Adam Gimbel (Rookie Card, Blasphemous Guitars), and Davida Milkes (the Buzzkill Romantics, the Electric Mood Maidens)!

WHO'S MARIE?
Described as "somewhere between Kate Bush and Leonard Cohen" (San Diego Downtown News), Marie Haddad released her debut CD 'A Beautiful Road' in 2006. Reviews of the disc likened her experimental arrangements, friendly melodies and overall sound to other artists such as Jane Siberry, XTC, Marillion, Tori Amos, and early Elton John. By 2007, with the help of internet radio play on stations like Pandora.com, Haddad began garnering fans from around the globe. In addition to her regular busy performance schedule, 2007 also found Haddad performing on live television and she was honored with a nomination at the 2007 San Diego Music Awards as Best Acoustic Act in San Diego.
Marie Haddad started playing piano at the age of 5 but quit formal training at 11 because her attention span required constant breaks for cartwheels.
After having to sell her piano in college, she missed playing so much that she would regularly sneak into a well-known San Diego hotel in the middle of the night to practice on the grand in their main ballroom. Soon, the cleaning staff started to recognize her.

After playing in various San Diego bands (everything from a mall houseband to a Xanadu cover project), she joined 12 piece 60's soul outfit the San Diego Beat Organization. The group was nominated as Best New Band at the 2002 San Diego Music Awards but disbanded shortly thereafter. It was only then that Haddad finally began publically peforming her own songs. Her compositions have a balance of emotion, virtuoso playing, innocence and cleverness that is rarely found in solo piano playing vocalists. Her live set is littered with unpretentious piano reworkings of everything from Johnny Cash to new wave classics.
