Tom Whitman presents...

Thanks for inviting me, girls. This party is super fun.

About Me

About Tom Whitman & Co.

This myspace page is about me, and about my events. Let’s start with my events…

Before I produced events in the gay world, I produced concerts and television, so I love the production aspects of events. I learned how to do the marketing, but my first love was lighting and sound and set decor and the overall experience that a well-produced event creates. I think of an event as an experience. It’s not whether I can get people into a venue, it’s about what they experienced while they were there.

I try to produce events I want to go to. I want to hang out with fun, flirty, unpretentious people. I want to go to an upscale event and dress up one night, and get sloppy in a pitcher of margaritas in the afternoon on another day. I want to hang out in a place where people aren’t afraid to introduce themselves. I want to listen to music with vocals, dance music one night, pop another night, eclectic and funky another night. I want to meet new people in a place where I can be myself, whatever that means.

Of The Pride Weekend

Hmmmm... what about me? I was born in Hawaii, grew up mostly in Europe and the Midwest cause my Dad was in the Air Force. I went to UCLA for undergrad and part of grad school. I worked as a producer at Nickelodeon/MTV for 9 years in LA and NY, and now I throw big gay parties for a living. (http://www.tomwhitmanpresents.com) I have a bratty chocolate lab puppy named Finley, and some great friends.

What else? I love creative people. I'm a sucker for beauty, in everything - internal, external, in my head, in words, in pictures. Every year life gets better, but not less complicated. Everything is impermanent, so don't worry so much. I've been in long-term serious love twice in my life. My parents are cool. I love New York and LA both. I drive a convertible. I play gay beach volleyball every Saturday in the summer, spring and fall. I have a weakness for mango margaritas. I love Florence, Sydney, Paris, Rio, Provincetown and Mammoth Lakes. I used to race for the UCLA ski team, but now I'm a snowboarder.  I like to paint. I write pretty well. I do neither one as much as I used to, nor as much as I should. I love reading - story is how we figure out our life.  I want to be remembered for something. (or maybe a few things.) I fall in like quickly, but in love slowly. I wrote and directed two animated shorts that toured about 60 international film festivals. I love everything from comic books to literary fiction.

How was that for stream of consciousness?

The heterosexualization of West Hollywood?

The heterosexualization of West Hollywood?A favorite topic of the LA gay cognoscenti (is there even such a thing as a gay LA cognoscenti or am I giving us too much credit?) is how the straights are in...
