amaja got into hip hop at an early age, which progressed into a love of old skool breaks & jungle, just after the transition from acid house in the early 90's. He started mixing back in 1993 and got on his first radio station, Don Fm in 1995, which was the biggest in South London, aged just 15. He began playing every Saturday night 7-9pm before Deekline and Hyperactive, til the station came to an end in 1996 due to continual problems with the DTI. Soon, the management were granted an RSL and formed 'W10 fm' the official station of the Notting Hill Carnival, where Damaja became part of the management team and also helped run their own stage at Carnival, playing to several thousand people...In late 1996 he got onto Rude fm, a North London Station where he played every Saturday until moving to live up north, but still commuted from Manchester to play fortnightly. In 1997 while up North, he started promoting his own nights and within a couple of months was DJ'ing 6 nights a week in Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield, Bolton and Leeds. Damaja gained a lot of residencies and won the 'DJ awards' at the NEC in Birmingham. In 1998, the Rude fm management went their separate ways, from which Ruud Awakening 104.3fm was born, where Damaja was the first DJ on the station. Since 1998, he played virtually every Saturday 9-11pm alongside Mc Blacka... and more recently on the multi-award winning number 1 radio station- Kool 94.6 fm.
Only today do we realise the massive impact we have had on people through them finding us via places like myspace... Other mc's Damaja has performed with include- Loki & Trigga (Shadow Demon), Eksman, Herbzie & Kasha (New Breed), Riko-dan, IC3, Funsta & Krayz-B (Uncontrollablez), The legendary Stevie Hyper-D (RIP), GQ, Rage, Five-alive, TT Ace, Style One & Terrorist (War Dance Team), Riddla, Palmer the Charmer, Fearless, Mirage, Demolition Man & Million Dan (K&W), Tonn Piper, Rizzla, Flyte & Fleximus, Kombo & Format (Illicit Poetz), Fro & Semtex (Side fx), mc Sense (THTC/Grass Roots Fam) and many many more, not forgotten but temporarily misplaced ;) ....Through the years he met members of the radio station, and they started to work together, first was MC Blacka, then J Swif. They played shows together regularly & before long MC Fever had joined the station and started doing shows with them aswell.
In October 2002 they had a mash-up session (as you do) at the Ruud studio involving copious amounts of 'Aftershock', and it became a memorable night, as the 'Aftershock Kru' was born...Since then, a youngster named K-Eye joined the crew & soon brought in Dubalty, a young producer with serious production skills which were quickly recognised & he too came onboard. To date he has releases on TOV & Grid. Look out for "Big time Dappa", "Creepy", "Whos that mc", "You never seen me..blood!", and many more floating about the scene currently......K-Eye & Blacka can be found on Kool fm 94.6, with Dubalty joining Twisted Individual regularly on the Grid records show. Damaja is currently making some big moves while making appearances on Kool fm, Don fm & holding down a weekly internet show EVERY TUESDAY 6-8pm GMT on WWW.WORLDFM.CO.UK ............................................................
.......Damaja has played at the majority of major venues in London, surrounding counties and up & down the UK including residencies at-
Rollercoaster (weekly), Dekefex, Suburban Noize, Eclectic, Ruud Nation and many more.
Other events include- One Nation, Best of British, Drumatics, Rollercoater (monthly), Throwdown, Pure Jungle, Hysteria, Desire, MC Convention, Battle of the Mcs, Jungle Ravers, Chrome (Liverpool), D.O.P.E (Leeds), Guidence (Manchester) to name but a few...
He has also played in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Sofia & Varna (Bulgaria), Tallinn (Estonia), Prague & Brno (Czech Republic), and several places in Germany ............................................................
...............................Damaja comes from a family of professional musicians and has written music since the age of 4, so after doing A-Level music, music technology and Modern music at University, he began to produce Drum & Bass........ The beginning.. is yet to come! ............................................................
