About Me

Hailing from Harrogate, Yorkshire, Tom Taylor and Wesley Gill come from the home of tearooms, antique shops, squaddies and spa's, not the usual birthplace for two of the hottest properties in underground dance music. The duo met through a friend and soon realised that they obviously shared a mutual interest in making music, “Our styles complemented each other, with the funk chords and squelchy basslines, it felt like a natural step for us to get together start making some tracks”. Fast-forward seven or eight years and the boy’s are now collectively known as The Electric Press. A name that is hot on the lips of just about every clubber, promoter and DJ in the dance music world.Their first release saw The Press signed to Ralph Lawson’s 20:20 Vision Label and subsequently the pair have gone on to produce some truly outstanding work. Annie mac was straight onto the lads, after playing several of their tracks she asked them to play at one of her radio one parties. Their seminal remix of DJ T's 'Robot Riot' found its way and remains in just about every credible DJs record box, the guy’s have also done remixes on Silicone Soul's Darkroom Dubs for Wolf & Flow and funksters, Bumper & Boogie Corporation which also went out on 20:20. With Nic Fanciulli liking what he heard so much that not only did he get the boys to rework Buick Project’s ‘At The Rave’ & George Andrew’s ‘Counter Steps’ on Saved Records, he also included another of their productions ‘Re: Evaluate’ (20:20 Vision) on his Renaissance mix compilation and Nic also remixed their recent single ‘Uno’ (20:20 Vision). The Yorkshire lads have continued to create work of the same esteem through the reworking of some of the world’s greatest artists including Snoop Dogg and Pharell, Ian Brown, Armand Van Helden, The White Stripes, Erika Badu and Kelis. More recently, the notorious label R&S asked the lads to remix Radical Rob’s ‘Monkey Wah’ and Tom has been working on various remix and re-editing projects with fellow 2020 and Space man Paul Woolford, all of these due out in the near future. In the studio the boy’s use modular synthesis to create the unusual synth noises and musical twists; and the sequencing of house, techno & live drum noises and twisted bass patterns happens on their MPC 2500 and Ableton live. All this is taken to the stage in their energetic live performances, which have taken them across the globe from London’s DDD, Ministry of Sound & Leeds’ Back to Basics to Belfast’s Stiff kitten, Sydney’s Tank & far across Eastern Europe. Tom also takes the EP sound out with his DJ sets, up & down the U.K. like a yoyo.Their sound covers all areas of house, techno & funk, hypnotising synth riffs and electronic soul, and with every live performance being different, the guys can create and twist their sound to funk the crowd to their hearts content.Their stock continues to rise again after taking time out to write their debut album and Tom breaking his foot after a gig (don’t ask!). With DJ Mag once making the bold statement that these guys are “The ones to watch for the Future”, The Press have an album due for release soon and will continue to experiment with breaking the boundaries of their live performances at clubs and festivals this year. Keep an eye out for The Electric Press performing live near you…..
