Born in Halifax now living in London Ryan Shaw began DJing at the age of 15, fascinated by the diverse sounds he was hearing from the likes of The Happy Mondays, early hacienda tapes from Graeme Park combined the Prodigy and De la Soul. He acquired some old hip-hop records and raided his savings to fuel the fire that was burning inside him.
His major breakthrough came when he was nominated by legendary back to basics promoter Dave Beer to take part in the hugely successful 6 part TV docu-series The Joy Of Decks aired on ITV1 in the fall of 2003. Ryan was chosen from over 300 nominees to take part in the show, and over 3 months was mentored by Tom Middleton aka Cosmos.
Ryan won the competition and since then has toured the world as resident DJ for the Smirnoff Experience. Since winning the Joy Of Decks Ryan has been DJing relentlessly, taking in Venezuela, India, touring Serbia as well as a 10-date university tour of the UK.
He has played the festival circuit including The Big Chill, Bud Rising, Bestival, TDK, Leeds Festival and Exit Serbia. Ryan has graced the decks with the likes of Derek May, Paul Woolford Dan Ghenacia Jo Mills Anderson Noise, Tom Middleton, the Glimmer Twins, Ralph Lawson, Chloe, Mr C, Chris Coco, Soul Mekanik James Holroyd, Trentemoller Smokin Jo Layo and Bushwacka! In February 2004 Ryan compiled and mixed the cover mount CD for DJ magazine, the mix flowed from boogie funk to electro via break beat and house. Ryan showed his musical background mixing tracks from DJ Punk Rock to Al Naayfish as well as his own collaborations. The CD received acclaim far and wide from the industry.
Ryan's style ranges from deep electronic house music through to techno via digital disco and electro funk. His versatility has gained him a reputation as an Eclectrition, a term coined after the Joy Of Decks when Tom Middleton named him the 3rd Jedi knight. He is happy grooving the backrooms or carving up the main room via festivals and Fortresses a like.
