Shaka reviewComments
Having released his first records on Mule Electronic, Wave Tec and Versatile, Tony Lionni is one of the most exciting newcomers of 2008. Fusing the subtlety of Detroit Techno with an overwhelming euphoria, the three tracks on his new record for Figure might be his most outstanding effort so far. As a recording artist he is a newcomer – as a DJ he has been well-respected in Manchester..s underground club scene for quite some time. He grew up in Liverpool, listening to the Soul-, Disco- and Funk records of his father. Beeing down with a crew from Manchesters neighborhood Old Trafford called The Rebels In Effect, HipHop shaped his future musical direction. Up to now he has deejayed at almost all relevant clubs and bars in Manchester. Spinning rare groove, salsa and deephouse records, Lionnis profound knowledge of the history of black music makes his techno tracks so striking and soulful.
