Sugar Plum Fairies

About Me

The band started in the spring of 2000 in Fyresdal, Telemark, Norway. Heavily influenced by folk music, bluegrass/country and the Beatles they made their way through a lot of genres and material (their own and that of other people), before deciding to write their own music and create their own style. The result was the album "Fivrelddans" ("Butterfly Dance"), released in December 2005 on their own Spun Sugar Records label, on which they have put music to the poems of Haakon Lie. The style is a unique blend of Norwegian folk music, bluegrass, country and more poppy stuff. The record has received good reviews in local, Norwegian press. All the melodies on this production are composed by Øyvind Berge and Merethe Jørgensdottir Reinskås (TONO/ncb).The band is the recipient of the Fyresdal Municipality Culture Award for 2006 for their debut album and their years of contribution to the culture life in Fyresdal. In 2008 the track "Fridtjof Nansen" will be featured on the compilation album "Norwegian Wood Music For China vol.5", issued in 10.000 copies in China via the nation's leading music magazine.
