Monastery plays an aggressive mix of Thrash and Death metal with catchy melodies and killer riffs. With songs varying from groovy to fast the band manages to keep the listeners focused till the end. Monastery excels on-stage with a tight and energetic live-set, brought with lot’s of enthusiasm.
Monastery was founded in 1997 by guitarist Jacob-Hans, drummer Tom and former bass player Stef. After several line-up changes the band was finally stable with the recruitment of guitarist Jeroen.
With this line-up two demo’s (‘Remain of the Monastery’ (2000) and ‘Soul Insanity’ (2002)) where recorded and released. Because of these demo’s, the band became more well-known and played live a lot.
In 2005 Stef decided to leave the band and new bass player Ian became part of the band. With this new line-up the mini-CD ‘Fragility of the Future’ was recorded in 2006. This mini-CD was presented on Occultfest 2006. This was also the starting point for extensive live-promotion.
Monastery has an outstanding live reputation, having shared the stage with band like Altar (NL), Entombed (S), Eisregen (D), Primal Fear (D), Pro-Pain (USA), Sinister (NL) and U.D.O (D) in The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
The band also played several festivals like Noordschok, Occultfest and the Metal Invasion Festival.
To promote ‘Fragility of the Future’, a mini-tour together with Dew-Scented (D) was done with shows in The Netherlands and Germany.
