Ian Babington - Singer & Songwriter

About Me

"Hi, I'm Ian and I'm a singer-songwriter living here in Leicester - a city in the centre of England, which I have reached via Dudley and Brighton.I have been writing songs for a number of years now, and have played in a few different bands. After neglecting my music for a while to focus all my attention on the 'serious career person' side of life things are better balanced again and the songs are flowing once more. Stylistically I am back playing the way that I started - solo and acoustic - and having a great time doing it.I hope you'll enjoy the music that you find here - I finished recording a CD in February 2006, titled 'Communication Overdue', which is already available to buy through a few different sites (CDBaby and,www.wovenwheatwhispers.com).Alternatively, you can find the album on i-tunes, Napster, and a host of other sites. Also, some of my songs are getting airplay on folk/acoustic stations - theacousticstage, wholewheat radio, and Radio Britfolk. Now its 2007, a new batch of songs is coming together, and they will hopefully be getting recorded in the not too distant future - watch this (my)space! The songs that I feature here will rotate on a regular basis, but of the current three there are two from the 'Communication Overdue' CD whilst 'Wave Don't Break' is an old live favourite which has never been released before, so is here as a free download... Influences:My songwriting & music has been influenced by all sorts of acts, some more obvious than others perhaps but they're all in there somewhere ..... the Beatles, Crowded House, Nanci Griffith, Billy Bragg, Ian McNabb, Richard Thompson, Paul Simon, Eddi Reader, Neil Young, Van Morrison, and many more who escape me at the moment. Though my own sound is very different I owe a big thanks to the mighty Wonder Stuff for being the first band to make me want to pick up a guitar, and Pete Morton & Robb Johnson are two folk singer-songwriters who had a big influence when I first started writing and performing in this genre...
