About Me

I'm a gigging acoustic/electric bassist in the Washington DC area. I've played with a long list of musicians locally and nationally, many of whom are among my "friends" here. I enjoy playing all kinds of music, and love the challenge of learning something new, while retaining all I've learned so far. I probably know several thousand songs off-hand, and probably get many of the gigs I get because of that. I enjoy playing jazz, cause I can express my creative side that way, but I grew up on the "one" of the funk, and can probably still play grooves from entire albums of the old funk groups just from looking at the titles. I've been really getting into world and odd-time music lately, as some of the most creative musicianship is happening in these forms. But I dig Hip-Hop too, and play blues like I was born in the Delta! I'm doing a lot of writing these days, as I think I have a lot to say musically and need to express it. Now that I have my new computer and have joined the 21st century by discarding of dial-up, I'll add my music page and put up some samples. Well actually, I have my music page, but I don't have any pics up yet, so, in the meantime, you can check out this new song from my music page. The title is Free Free, and the lyrics/spoken word were written and sung by the Lovely Dehejia Butler. She actually had the idea before I put the music together. I just felt this as I listened to her sing and speak! I played everything myself, so if the drummer ain't happenin, blame me! LOL Let me know if you like it. If you're in the DC area, you can check me out every Wed-Saturday evenings at the FishMarket in Clinton MD. Unless I'm on the road, I'll be there. I'm also in Georgtown every Mon night at the hole-in-the -wall otherwise known as the Saloun. Bass-wise, I'm an MTD endorser, and also use Fender Jazz basses (5 at the moment) extensively. I use Lakland, MusicMan Stingray, and Modulus Graphite (fretless 5) as well. My latest bass-addition is an Alleva-Coppolo 5 string LM-5 bass, whcih is already becoming one of my favorites! Amp-wise, I use an Epifani cab(3-10), Aguilar 680 preamp, Crest CA-4 power amp. For acoustic and smaller gigs, I use an AER Basic Performer, which is the best combo amp I've EVER played through.
I made this layout with help from pYzam , Look at these other Layouts!

My Interests

Weightlifting/exercise, Sports--especially the 'Skins, movies (adventure, suspense, comedy, romance, etc.), listening to old jazz and blues records (where I steal most of my grooves and solos from), sex (don't act like sex doesn't interest you!), listening to and learning from different people, health-conscious eating and living, writing new music, lyrics, and poems, reading on the internet, acting like a total FOOL at times, walking my dog Mingus, teaching bass and guitar to students and watching them grow beyond their initial goals, being a good, honest friend, learning new chords and grooves on different instruments, watching musicians play, watching women play(HAHA), travelling across the world playing my bass and making at least one person happy per show.....

I'd like to meet:

Interesting, cool, honest, fun people who enjoy life; musicians, vocalists, and artists who challenge me and themselves; Groovacious folk
