When MONET began writing for her second CD "AWAKENING," the multidimensional artist wanted to share some of her recent life-changing experiences as well as to explore more of her musical influences. "Not doing this would not have been fair to myself or to others who have had similar experiences, It often helps knowing you are not alone."That's how MONET describes the genesis behind "AWAKENING," due out on PURPOSE RECORDS in the summer of 2007. The classically trained flautist wanted to express, explore and expand. To assist her in this leap, MONET enlisted a stellar group of collaborators and contributors to the project. Among them, label mate and dear friend, producer/singer/songwriter ANGELA JOHNSON, keyboard player extraordinaire NICK ROLFE, JEFF SMITH from the FAMILY STAND, super talented but vastly underrated producer PREZ, JEFF HAYNES and BASHIRI JOHNSON, two of the best percussionists in the world and world renown producer/remixer DJ SPINNA.MONET's longtime producer and collaborator GIL SMALL is also on board as well as contributions from band members keyboard player RANDY WILSON and guitarist THOM LOUBET.In taking a sneak preview of "AWAKENING," the songs "Y R So Many" and "JUST BE" gives the listener an idea of Monet's world view and life philosophy, while cuts like "IT's YOUR LIFE" and "DO YOU WANNA TALK" share her playful side.MONET's debut CD "ESSENCE" has the unique distinction of having 8 of the 12 songs on the project, featured television, movies, radio show theme songs, commercials or compilations. "STAND" was used in both the ROSEWELL DVD and UPN's KEVIN HILL, "JOY" was also used in KEVIN HILL. "U TOLD ME" and "SPIRIT" have each been licensed to several compilations. "VIBACIOUS," "SPIRIT" and "BAHIA BLUES" have been used as the theme songs to various including extensive use on the WEATHER CHANNEL.MONET has been quite busy between her projects. Contributing flute and vocals on "YOU'RE HERE WITH ME" on ANGELA JOHNSON's "GOT TO LET IT GO," "COOLIN" and "INSPIRATION" on MARLON SAUNDERS "GROOVE SO DEEP" and flute on "CONFESSIONS" on MELENA PEREZ's current project.MONET is also well represented on CHRISTIAN VER HALEN's "ROOFTOP" project. Performing her own collaboration "DEEP IN THE WATER" and contributing flute and vocals to "JUNKYARD JEWEL" featuring MAYA AZUCENA and "WASHED AWAY" featuring SELAN. MONET also will be appearing on the upcoming project by Nigerian soul artist SIJI.MONET in the last year has also shared the stage with CHRIS ROB, MAYA AZUCENA, MESHELL NGECHELLO, REDHEADPHONES and TY CAUSEY.In addition to NEW YORK, PHILADELPHIA, COLUMBUS, CINCINNATI, DAYTON and TOLEDO were her strongest markets.
