"Reminding us that hoe-downs, horas, and hootenannies are the way to go if you're looking for a serious party, rowdy San Francisco five-piece Sweet Crude Bill & the Lighthouse Nautical Society kick off an evening of finger-picking with bar-fight bravado. Following in the grand avant-folk traditions of Man Man and Gogol Bordello, the bellowing Sweet Crude Bill and his minions channel Walt Whitman through the mouths of Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, swapping stories with the audience and instruments — including violin, banjo, and lap steel...

Unleashing a furious imagination, Sweet Crude Bill washed upon the San Francisco shores in the early part of this century, cast out of his true home, an oil rig at sea, by a massive explosion. Over many years, Bill has gathered a merry crew of musicians and vagrant philosophers who now bring their music to you. Ten Finger Joe, Paintbrush Willie, Anne Can Anne and Hal Burton find in Bill the Tall Tale Hero for whom they each searched, and in turn Bill finds his poems, stories, and melodies arranged into such a frenzy that preachers' wives have stripped their clothes and gone mad. Part rock, part rockabilly & renegade country, with tastes of the various shores where Bill & his mates have landed. Pure heart.

Influences: Johnny Cash, Hedwig & The Angry Inch, Dolly Parton, The Doors, Reverend Billy, Hank Williams, Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, The Band, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Supersuckers, Detroit Cobras, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Harry Belafonte, Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, Bill Monroe, Old Crow Medicine Show, Woody Guthrie, La Plebe, Manu Chao, The Earl Brothers, Willie Nelson, Roscoe Holcomb, Waylon Jennings, Kenny Rogers, Velvet Underground, Pixies, Nirvana, Guns 'N' Roses, The Devil's Own, Antibalas, Loquat, Black Sabbath, Kris Kristofferson, The Pogues, Mano Negra, Gogol Bordello, Red Elvises, Reverend Horton Heat, Tom Waits
Sounds Like: Elvis Presley and Pecos Bill trying to sneak into a Pogues concert.
