About Me

Jazz and Folk icon and an old friend of Jack Kerouac's, David Amram, told me once, "I've never heard a banjo sound like that. It's Lovely. Don't let anyone change what you do." I'm not sure if David remembers this exchange because there was whiskey involved and it was about four in the morning at a campfire, but his words have stayed with me.

My songs have been likened to the music of Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, and Jean Ritchie. These artists inspire me, as do some soul musicians who carried the heart of the civil rights movement, Nina Simone and Sam Cook in particular. I love that music can mean so many different things to different hear-ers, and can take us to places we've forgotten or imagined. I love my old banjo's spirit and the achy noises it makes, and the way it is melancholy and bright at once. And I love making music with other people!! So if you are in New York, come to secret shows! Come see the Rude Mechanical Orchestra (my amazing marching band-- I play the washboard!)

A few of my songs will be featured on Lufthansa's cross Atlantic Americana program in November and December this year, and my first album, An Early Dream, is available as an editor's pick under anti-folk and urban-folk on CDbaby.com. Hope you enjoy the music!
