skepticism is bliss

About Me

This is still Joe Delta from Suck City. Just another (extra)ordinary guy. A user-friendly skeptic. (if I may say so myself).
I'm a bassplayer (retired for the moment).
I have been beating the crap out of my Rickenbacker 4003 and Hartke XK-4 for years as one of the members of the fast 'n sleazy rock band called The Leftovers, of which band I was the co-founder. Last year I decided to quit because of some personal reasons, but that's not your business. So don't ask if you don't really know me.
I'll probably pick up the bass again in the near future (who know's). But for now the curtain has fallen.
For those who need to know: I believe that the spirit of Rock 'n Roll is in the heart and stays there forever if you are true to yourself, which I am desperately trying to be. (How am I doing, master?)
Check The Leftovers out at: www.myspace.com/suckcityleftovers if you want to know what it sounded like.
Besides the musical part of my life there's also the "automotive part".
I'm crazy about Italian cars. At the moment I own a Red Turbocharged FIAT Grande Punto T-Jet in Sports-trim.
Before this one I owned a Blue FIAT Grande Punto StarJet (in luxurious "emotion" trim). At the moment I am the secretary of the Dutch FIAT Grande Punto Club, of which club I was one of the founders (as well).
For the Americans who don't really know FIAT: it does NOT mean "Fix It Again Tom". In real life it's the abbreviation of "Ferrari In Affordable Trim".
And last but not least there's one other thing that I am extremely interested in: Medieval history and architecture
some pictures of medieval churches and abbeys I visited in the last two years, located in the French Charente Maritime area

Music:

To name a few artists in a very random order: Gary Moore, Turbonegro, Jay Jay Johnson, Max Cady, Sonny Rollins, Monster Magnet, Nebula, Rory Gallagher, Soundgarden, Hawkwind, Johnny Cash, Reverend Beat Man/Lightning Beat Man, Thin Lizzy, No Means No, The Dead Brothers, Sasquatch and the sick-a-billys, Brian Setzer/Stray Cats, Howlin' Wolf, The Gecko Brothers, B.B.King, The Phantom Surfers, Albert King, Howlin' Wolf, The Cramps, Blind Melon, Zeke, Motorhead, The Dwarves, The Supersuckers, Hayseed Dixie, Sonic Youth, Mudhoney, Les Negresses Vertes, (The) Melvins, The Silvermen, Alice in Chains, Nick Cave, Corrosion of Conformity, Radiohead, The Afghan Wigs, Entombed, Klank, White Zombie, Demented are Go, The Fleshtones, Guttermouth, The Hives, Jim Hall, Wes Montgomery, The Saints, Max Roach, Godflesh, Manic Street Preachers, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, The Reverend Horton Heat, Bad Religion, Rollins Band, The Neckbones, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Zeno Tornado and the Boney Google Brothers, King Diamond, Southern Culture On The Skids, Lard, Voodoo Glow Skulls, The Countdowns, The Pixies/Frank Black, The Flaming Sideburns, Iggy Pop/The Stooges, Depeche Mode, The Ghastly Ones,....and many more

....and what's music without musical instruments (being a bass-player myself, I am particularly interested in (electric)guitars):

I prefer guitars with some kind of "classic" look (and sound). Especially guitars from legendary brands like Gretsch, Rickenbacker, Gibson and Epiphone.
Fender has (to my humble opinion/taste) a bit of a less classic look (or maybe it's a sign of the fact that they are unique), but there are some nice Fenders out there. No doubt about that.
Most Japanese/Korean/Chinese (of course I don't mean the Epiphones or Gretsches made under license in Asia) or really modern/extreme guitars freak me out. (I am quite certain that they are the work of the Devil, trying to break the spirit of Rock 'n Roll) One exception to this "rule" on modern guitars is Hartke and in particular the XL/XK series. They've got a special place in my heart as well.

Movies:

I've watched loads of movies, but most didn't really impress me, so I forgot all about them. Movies that I still remember (and I guess that's a good sign) are: Name of the Rose, Oh Brother Where Art Thou?, Vidocq, most Quentin Tarantino movies and documentaries by Michael Moore.
Besides these "serious" movies/documentaries, I have to admit that I enjoy movies made by Pixar and Dreamworks (Cars, Shrek etc.)

Television:

I'm proud to say that I hardly watch any idiot box programs. OK, I watch DVD's. Mainly British comedy (Bottom, Young Ones, Monty Python, Absolutely Fabulous, Fawlty Towers, Black Adder, British Detectives (Morse, Frost, Dalziel & Pascoe) and documentaries concerning my main points of interest.
One exception to this "hardly watching the idiot box" is the fact that I like watching hockey (NHL) and baseball (MLB).

Books:

should at least be non-fiction. Mainly (semi-)scientific books about medieval history, religion, knights templar, freemasonry, filosofy, politics, or Italian cars.

No, I have never read The Da Vinci Code and I don't intend to read it, ever.
