About Me

I'm Andy Richardson, drummer for the band South Saturn Delta. We are a southern rock, jam, and blues band based out of Birmingham, AL. Check out the band's site at www.myspace.com/southsaturndeltatheband
I play Slingerland Drums, Zildian Cymbals, Rodgers Snares, DW Hardware, Vater Drumsticks, and Remo Drumheads. I get a lot of questions about my set up on my drum kit. So, here's a detailed description of it:
Drums:
The 1975 Slingerland kit I have has 10", 12", 13", 14", 15" mounted toms. Of course I don't set all of that up. I just use the different sizes for variety. I usually set up the 13" tom on my current set up. However, I sometimes use the other various sized toms that I have with this kit, depending on the room that I'm playing. I use that drum(s) with the 18" floor tom and the 24" kick-drum. I use an 18" floor tom all the time live on this set. Although 18" floor toms are difficult to tune, when you get them sounding right, they have a lot of bottom end that 16" floor toms don't. The bass drum is a 24" that sounds great. I use a 14" 1979 Rodgers Snare on this kit.
Cymbals:
I use Zildian Cymbals in a variety of sizes and tones. But, I usually play with a ping type ride cymbal and three different toned crash cymbals, all depending on the room that's being played. I use 14" Zildian Master Sound Hi-Hats.
Hardware:
Everything I use is mounted on DW Hardware via the RIMS Mounting System on the drums.
Heads:
I use Coated Ambassador Remo Drumheads on all the toms and the snare drum. I use a Coated PowerStroke Remo Drumhead for the beater side of the bass drum and a Remo Fiberskin Drumhead for the outer side.

Sounds Like: The South Saturn Delta sound goes back to the roots of Southern Rock and Blues. With influences as revered and respected as The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Ray Charles, SSD creates a sound as thick as a Walker County swamp!

In addition to their regular gigs all over Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, the boys have headlined music festivals, Sloss Furnace's Stokin' The Fire festival, state fairs, fundraising events, and have opened for legendary musicians, such as The Charlie Daniels Band, Marshall Tucker Band, and The Georgia Satellites. The guys even opened for Kid Rock on July 4, 2007.
