About Me

SONNY AND CHER MEET JOHNNY AND JUNE!
BumpKin Pie are squared. We're also MICHAEL DUNKLEY (aka Munkle) and SUZANNE IVES (aka Zang), a husband and wife duo from Alexandria, Virginia near Washington, DC. We write and perform our own material, as well as share a few choice covers. We've had several of Suzanne's songs appear on Hungry For Music's (hungryformusic.com) annual Holiday Feast CDs, including "Party in the Stable" in 2005 (called "one of the best new holiday songs of the year"), "Make the Angels Sigh" in 2001 (Vol. VI) and 2003 (Creme de la Creme, a "best of" collection), and "Take the Tree Out to the Curb" in 2002. Sloan Wainwright has called Suzanne's songs "shimmering gems" and when Severin Browne (Jackson's brother and a terrific singer-songwriter in his own right) heard a couple of her songs, he just said, "Wow." Wow is good.
In the early '70s Michael helped to found the groundbreaking rhythm and bluegrass band Coup de Grass and continues to perform on occasion with the infamous Del Swarthmores. (The Del Swarthmores appeared on the Americana Motel CD, one of the Wall Street Journal's 10 best of 2001!) Occasionally, we are joined by a friend (or two or three) who may help us out with top-notch vocal and instrumental parts. These folks might include Larry Benade, a talented acoustic and electric guitar picker; Scott McKnight, DC-area songwriter and guitarist extraordinaire; Bob Spates, sizzling fiddler; Loralyn Coles, local songwriter and soprano vocalist; Maria "Pete" Durgan, six-string-bassist, vocalist, and bossa blues songwriter; David Kitchen, award-winning Americana songwriter, dreamy vocalist and tasty guitarist; Eric Rose, yet another notable rippin' guitarist who performs with David in American Song; Tim Griffin, cowboy guitarist with Dennis Jay, and anyone else we can lure onstage.
Our own CD is in progress. Stay tuned!
(By the way, those are our cats in the little ads below. Take a peak!)

BumpKin Angst

It's January. It's finally gotten cold. The full spectrum light isn't quite doing the job. My cuticles are cold. I have an unreasonable urge for sand in my peanut butter. The groundhog has officially ...

Hey, Haymarket!

Okay. The truth is, I've never blogged before. I've bogged (down) and I've begged (for mercy) and I've logged (on), but blog? Never. Tried to--once--but it never went anywhere. So here I sit, giving i...
