Kundalini Shock Attack consists of Ashvin, Nebulae, and Yousuf. The band members come from the farthest corners of the galaxy, and they bring their diverse backgrounds and cultures to create their unique brand of desi post-dancefloor deconstructionalism. Ashvin and Nebulae began collaborating in college at U.C. Berkeley, and Ashvin and Yousuf met right after college in New York where Ashvin moved to. Nebulae lived in various parts of west coast and currently resides in Dallas. Neb works remotely with Ash and Yousef, getting together several times a year to produce songs and shows, while Ash and Yousuf regularly perform KSA material in New York.Kundalini Shock Attack has actually been around for a while in various clandestine forms and has composed more than a few hundred recorded songs and poems and visual art works. In the late 90's the KSA track "Flashback! Headfake! Shakeout!" was a dancefloor staple at goth clubs in england. And the KSA musical "Robotic Dominatric" made the charts in Romania, all this stemming from handing out a couple home produced cd's to a couple dj's of industrial music in the UK. Ash and Yousuf's first composition together was 10 years ago with an evokative and enchanting bhangra beat driven guitar laden tribalistic raw powerfully atmospheric track called "Sita ki Aashiqiyan." Ashvin and Yousuf are both avid cooks as well, the old KSA song "Botch It Up Boccioni" being a culinary reference to the Italian Futurist painter Umberto Boccioni. The song is an accompaniment to a dessert tray designed by KSA boasting such creations as Iceleen Maru, Bisleri Halva, and Mumphali FatakaThere were parallels between the Futurists and KSA Art Movement, a point that Ash drives further when he captured a still from an Enrico Prampolini set design for the 1920's futurist film Thais and cut it up and further treated it with KSA stlylings for the cover of the KSA album "Lakulysha Moteek." Both Yousuf and Ashvin spent much time in mountains, deserts and villages of the Hindukush and Karakorums, Thar and Rajasthan. Yousuf bent time and space wandering the hills of the North West frontier in search of himself and having met with various tribes and mystics along the way from the plains of Deosai to lakes of Naltar, ending search in the plateau of Potohar. Gathering lights and sounds to race towards an inner awakening. Neither Ash nor Yousuf or Neb had any musical training, the closest to that Ash had come was when he went to Jaisalmer while in college, he lived for a few weeks with Bopi tribespeople on the Thar desert where he purchased a Ravan Hatha and learned to play and sampled various Rajasthani folk percussions for a KSA recording at the time. Ashvin and Yousuf construct their own clothes for performances, a post-structuralist design philosophy that they terms as "couture sous rature". Some of the pieces that Ash fashioned had the script "Anti fashions for the fusion fascist" emblazoned on them as a facetious and alliteratory disport. Ash first started writing songs while in Junior high school. He used a busted acoustic guitar he found that had missing strings and was perpetually out of tune and made music with it as well as with books and cassettes beating against each other and various other sounds until Greg and him made entire albums with a Fisherprice keyboard that had an onboard sampler. They called themselves "Holiday Death Toll" and composed a french synthpopera as a joke called "La Douche de la Mort" which actually won them first place at a National Drama competition while in high school, go figure. Neb has also been composing since his early teen years. To date, he has completed 11 albums over 25 remixes for artists all over the world. Neb's music is at http://www.nebulae.com and http://myspace.com/nebulae.Currently KSA is releasing Rang Rasiya video on various channels and plan to continue with their Urdu/Punjabi/Tamil/Bengali/Farsi/Arabic compositions and to perform live at non-standard venues.. KSA will soon plan a tour and play remote places along the borders of every state, followed by release of the album.
