Meet the lady behind this space, as a singer, a songwriter and a musician.
Marie-Joëlle grew up in a small town in The Netherlands, and as a little child she was already deeply fascinated by music. Inspired by the various musical instruments surrounding her, she soon became an artist herself. The violin attracted her most, and as a teenager she found herself travelling Europe with a Youth Orchestra.
At age seventeen, she finished the highest degree for piano in the Musical Academy and sang on the largest stages in Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands in the choir of ‘Night of the Proms’.
In the year 2000, five friends joined to form the pop/rockband Kunda. Marie-Joëlle was amongst them as a backing singer and percussionist. Together they shared the stage numerous times, performing their own songs on various occasions, with as a climax the opportunity to be the support act of the Finnish band The Rasmus. Hereafter, in 2005 the five musicians of Kunda went their own way.
In the meanwhile, Marie-Joëlle had moved to Belgium, where she studied Music Production at the Conservatory in Ghent. There she had composing lessons from Dirk Brossé, and it wasn’t until then that she discovered the need to express her feelings through music. Her first songs were born, and more were about to come. The parting of Kunda enabled her to spend more time shaping her own music, and gradually she developed her unique style.
Marie-Joëlle was only twenty years of age when she married her soulmate and producer Kenny Clarys, and together they successfully organised a large scale concert, where all her songs were played by band and symphonic orchestra.
It was during this concert that Marie-Joëlle fully realised the true meaning and the great impact of music. She then decided to dedicate her life to this beautiful form of creativity and communication, encouraged by all her loved ones. While doing so, her music reached different destinations such as the contest for ‘The Best Diamond Song’. After effortlessly making her way to the finals in Antwerp Hilton, Marie-Joëlle won the contest with her song ‘Diamonds In Your Eyes’, unanimously chosen by the presiding jury. Next she appeared several times on television while performing her songs.
Today, Marie-Joëlle is still doing what she loves most, sparing no effort to make her music known to the world. She is a spiritual personality with an equal message, deeply inspired by the words of H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, and all the great prophets who ever walked on this earth.
She admires The Beatles for their simplicity, Joni Mitchell for her honesty, Billy Joël for his amazing ability to shape stories and melodies into songs, and U2 for the uplifting charisma they represent on and off stage. But most likely you won’t find any of these influences in her music, for genuineness and originality are the qualities she aspires most.
You don’t need anything in particular to enjoy this music. Just make yourself comfortable and experience any kind of feelings while listening, and she will be smiling.
