Influences: Classically trained in Piano since age 6, growing up on late night television, The Enigma, (hey, that's me!), is influenced by John Williams (StarWars), John Barry(TheBlackHole), Danny Elfman(EdwardScissorhands), Bernard Herrmann(TwilightZone's"TheLonely"), Krzysztof Penderecki(Threnody), Angelo Badalamenti(TheCityofLostChildren), Louis and Bebe Barron(ForbiddenPlanet), Jerry Goldsmith(PlanetoftheApes), Sol Kaplan and Gerald Fried(StarTrek), John Morris(TheElephantMan), Dominic Frontiere(TheOuterLimits), of course all the great classical composers, and my older brother, Joe Lawrence, a piano teacher and composer living in LA.
Penn and Teller "the bad boys of magic" were big influences in the area of class. Now they are my friends. When in Vegas go see their show!!!
Rock and Roll "POP" has also influenced me however not as much in a musical sense as more in pure esthetics, in a general way. Some I strongly recommend : Bauhaus, Rush, NIN, Doors, Doctor Demento, Weird Al, Frank Zappa, John Lennon, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, B-52's, Ministry, Singing Rosenburgs, Fantomas, Iron Bitch Face, Pink Floyd, and most definately, David Bowie to name but a few.
I have a great liking for belly dance and gypsy music. In my list of "crazy stuff" I have a nunber of old jazz songs as well just to keep'em guessin'!
Some times I do a bit of record spinning before a show. It's something I call DJADD. Perhaps, one day, you'll get to hear that maddness as well.
Sounds Like: A sound track/score composers attempt at rock'n roll. How sweetly sublime!
