Temporary Lover
Just another guest in this hotel
You frequently call your life.
Someone to amuse yourself with
Until a more desirable traveler arrives.
Like yesterday's newspaper
I will be cast aside.
Your hands are black.
And the ink resides...
Like an ugly stain on your soul.
A hauntingly familiar scent...
Each time I lay my head to rest
Upon my pillow which used to be
A heart of stone inside your chest.
Dreams never come easy...
Mostly flickering impressions
Passing through a fitfull sleep.
Dreams...? Or merely recollections?
Sensations seem to follow me
Each time I close my eyes.
The effort of waking from a lonely slumber
Is something I've grown to despise.
I've tried so desperately and in vain
Never again to feel anything.
Somehow this caught me off guard
And I'm unprepared for the sting.
