Dead Sea Surfers Surf The Dark Side!
Dead Sea Surfers is the brainchild of singer & songwriter Aleister. The vocalist, guitarist, keyboardist has performed with various projects & bands on many stages through the years, from LA to New York City. In 2004 Aleister lent his keyboard skills to The projekt Dead Emotion when performing in NYC in 2004.Despite being a fan, friend & hired gun performer for Dead Emotion’s music, Aleister regressed & reformed his band, Dead Sea Surfers, to actulize & evocate memories of postpunk, deathrock music he enjoys the most which to most expanse is deeply bass laden, synth-heavy classic gothic music. If Dead Sea Surfers were performing magick in theory & practice in the early to mid 80's there's no doubt they would have been a force in the underground subculture, what would later be called the gothic genre or goth scene. Their signature chart-topping sound is an ultramodern blend reminscent of past classics but a sound that is evolved, augmenting & progressing with a newness in it's raw simplicity. The four songs presented here are a unique crossectional blend of gothic & rock music, two genres forever in love with each other, especially gothic music which has always been influenced by elements of rock, yet deeper & more driven & precise.“Tiphereth†is mid-tempo invocation anthem to call a romance anterior, which brings to mind the sound of London After Midnight at its heaviest. The arrangement is tasteful & Aleister’s vocals sound empyreal. “Already Home†has an orginal punk feel with idol gutteral vocals & probable influences are the cramps, generation x or maybe the likes of iggy pop & the stooges “I Died For You†is ehtereal opaque synth-pop at it's best with a driving bass line. This lick could have easily been lifted off a Sisters Of Mercy album with it's clean innocent clarity, but is another genuine jewel in the DSS's signature sound “Whore†is filled with Type O Negative styled fuzzy guitars & church organ pipes with vocals in the vain of cradle of filthIt seems after Aleister transfiguration where he took in over 100 units of fresh blood to sustain life in 1999 that his shapeshifter abilities with respect to sound began to appear & filter down to an ability to mimic classic & modern gothic hymns but the question, which sound should he ultimately persue, you know what, who cares when most of his songs are lucid, dark, catchy, perspicuous, well-arranged high-quality recordings. Dead Sea Surfers can be the best soundtrack for every day which to some is always Halloween.
