About Me

Pingpongrecords is first and foremost an online music store concentrating on the more esoteric and avant-garde elements of modern music. It does however act as a conduit for all my interests which include art, literature, film and politics. Therefore we will not only be selling Books, Films, Art, Music etc but commisioning/writing articles, offering MP3's and free video downloads as well as hopefully putting on gigs, POdcasting and, if all goes according to plan, producing a fanzine shortly. Check it out (www.pingpongrecords.com) and tell me what you think.
The Tiger Lillies 7 Deadly Sins featuring Nathan Evans and Ophelia Bitz at the New Players Theatre from 7 – 26 April (Press night 10 April at 8pm)
Punk cabaret favourites The Tiger Lillies present a brand new theatre cabaret charting man’s fall from paradise to hell, to be premiered at the atmospheric New Players Theatre. With Punch and Judy puppetry, the show puts a post-modern twist on the tale of Adam and Eve, as same-sex couple Punch and Jude represent the original sinners in the age of civil partnership.
With an original new song for each deadly sin, the show bursts with The Tiger Lillies’ dark and deviant style. The three-piece band is joined by burlesque performer Ophelia Bitz and puppetry from performer Nathan Evans.
Having amassed a worldwide cult following since 1989, the Tiger Lillies came to mainstream attention through the Olivier Award-winning Shockheaded Peter, for which they created the music and performed in the West End and on Broadway. The show received two Olivier Awards including Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for Martyn Jacques. Their music blends English music hall and pre-war Berlin cabaret with the spirit of punk and gypsy song to create deranged numbers that explore and mock the darkest sides of human nature.
The Tiger Lillies are Martyn Jacques (falsetto, accordion-playing frontman and song writer), Adrian Stout (bass) and Adrian Huge (drums). Performing together for almost two decades, they have released numerous CDs, including a CD of Shockheaded Peter (1998) and Grammy nominated The Gorey End (2003). The Tiger Lillies 7 Deadly Sins coincides with the release of an album of the same title.
Nathan Evans was involved in the Olivier Award-winning C’est Barbican. His theatre credits also include Puppetry of the Pops (tributes to Morrisey, Bowie and Bush), Atomic (a Blondie-inspired lipsynch spectacular) and Rather Be Dead than Gay. He hosts Vauxhallville at the Vauxhall Tavern, Cabaret Carousel at Madame JoJos and Puppet Grinder cabaret at The Little Angel Theatre.
Ophelia Bitz is a comic burlesque performer, actor, singer, dancer, compere, comedian, radio performer, installation artist and hands-free cocktail shaker. Recent gigs include UK tours with Mika and The Dresden Dolls, Tim Burton and Helena Bonham-Carter’s Halloween party, appearances on Derren Brown's C4 series, and a film collaboration with Peter Suschitzky.
Acclaimed Austrian artist Lukas Maximillian Huller has provided stunning scenic art based on Hieronymus Bosch’s triptych The Last Judgement. The Seven Deadly Sins, his own exhibition of photography and installation, takes place at the Galerie Caprice Horn in Berlin. The exhibition features The Tiger Lillies representing the sin of Wrath.
The Tiger Lillies 7 Deadly Sins runs at the recently refurbished New Players Theatre. The theatre has a long history as a music hall and playhouse in its home under the arches at Charing Cross. Steeped in history and with speculated gruesome connections to Jack the Ripper, this is the perfect home for a new show from The Tiger Lillies.
In its Dean Street venue, Soho Theatre presents plays by upcoming and established playwrights, alongside a late night programme of comedy and cabaret. Soho Theatre regularly presents work outside the building, at UK venues including the Arts, Duchess, Bloomsbury, Prince of Wales, HMS President, Vauxhall Tavern and Warwick Arts Centre; in New York and Tokyo; and many shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
