Penny Broadhurst

I dream of occasional fanzine mentions

About Me

Penny Broadhurst believes in hooks, harmonies and all-out pop music, and hates it when all the songs sound the same. She makes pop records, fanzines and crafty things (the latter an occasional pursuit). She is neither an acoustic singer-songwriter or an electro act, despite mistaken reports to the contrary.

Penny has played Wireless, Indietracks, Latitude, Truck, Moor Music, Solfest, Ladyfest and Glastonbury festivals and been played on BBC Radio 1, Xfm, BBC 6 Music, Dandelion Radio, Radio Magnetic etc as well as local and internet radio stations. She was shortlisted by the BBC World Service for their Next Big Things of 2007 and the Guardian wrote an introducing sort of piece about her, which got some things wrong but was still very nice.

Penny is currently working on an album at the Soundmill studio in Leeds with Hightone Productions, working title A Little More Sonic. She is available for records, gigs and picnics. Hurray!

WHAT PEOPLE SAY:

"Gorgeous stuff."
Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music

"She hasn't got a record deal but she sounds like an established act to me. I can see why she calls herself the Queen of Pop."
Clint Boon, Xfm Manchester

"Great DIY sound and I officially predict Penny Broadhurst will be a household name by 2009, if not sooner."
We Heart Music

"I love being surprised. Very clear sound. Contemporary. Chart material. Find yourself a record deal - or at least people who recognize a good thing when they hear it. Asap."
Nina de Man, BBC World Service

"Penny Broadhurst is our prime minister in another life."
Caffy St Luce

"A good strong dose of Northern attitude or humour. I'm sure if you put Penny Broadhurst into the internet you'll find out plenty about her...if you dare!"
Patrick Wolf
