Feel the fear....

About Me

FEAR is a curious piano/harp/fiddle/drums album of lo-fi songs about fear linked by spooky looped, twisted and corrupted samples of the same songs creating a haunting, dreamlike whole. A couple of songs sound a bit like Nick Drake which lots of people do these days but that's still good. The harp and the between song samples make some sound a bit like Bjork and one sounds like 'he's my Japanese boy' apparantly - mostly they are beautiful and a bit sad. please have a listen.
FEAR will be available in it's entirity from my website once it exists.
Live gigs are a bit special, from intimate to uplifting. People say good things about my odd songs and my singing. I'm there (obviously) usually with the piano, and often harp and fiddle but each gig is unique with different guest musicians and a different set of songs.
FEAR was recorded when I was really in the studio making a different album (see below) We where waiting around for a bassoon player (obviously) and thought we'd demo the NEXT album - turns out the songs really suited an 'unadorned' approach and sounded great so I left them as they where. Hope you agree they work well as bare bones little oddities.
NEXT....
The abum I was in the studio to make is a mental but hopefully beautiful thing with brilliant harp player Tom Moth based on the spooky, odd, fantastic music from 70's tv kids programme 'The Clangers' written by Vernon Elliott. But songs. Recording is ongoing and it's going to be really beautiful and weird. It's a bit of a labour of love.
HISTORY....
Moses are an indie folk band - a bit like Badly drawn boy or I am kloot - I am one of the singers and songwriters. We've released 2 full length albums & various ep's on tiny High Barn records. They have been described thus; 'a folk mini masterpiece that raids the school music room' (NME) and 'such Beautiful arrangements, quite the musicians' (lovely Candian genius Jane Siberry) and 'given a sunny summers day this will totally fit the bill' (Q magazine) and 'Moses...moses...MOSES!' (Shane MacGowan). We are writing the next album and gig all the time, our website is here: http://www.mosesband.com
but in the mean time, it's all about the FEAR...
I have uploaded some songs to a new listings website GIGALL some the same, some different. You have to click on 'bands and performers' and search for me.
Also the Channel 4 MySPace Music rip off features yours truly HERE
Enjoy.

Band Website: paulmosley.com
Band Members: Paul Mosley: singing, piano, synths, euphonium, clarinet, whistles, melodica, percussion.
On the 'FEAR' record I am joined by my MOSES friends Gav Fawcett (drums) & Katy Dent (violin... and she also sings for the first time). The harp is played by Tom Moth who also records as Lunamoth.
Katy's fella Alex Abbey came along to the studio one day and played the glockenspiel for us all to enjoy.
On the Work in Progress 'Clangers' record the fabulous improvistaional bassoon of Fiona Troon, the gorgeous flute of Claire Cobley, the crazy saw of Caspar Cronk and the double bass of Colin Smith join me, Tom, Gav & Katy and it is sounding exceptionally brilliant indeed.
Also LIVE we have so far been joined by Lorna Johns on Oboe, Simon Elms of trumpet, Becky Dixon on Cello, Helen Evans on violin, Sophie Traves singing and Col Smith on sax/flute/melodica.
Influences: In my own head the people who have actually infulenced me are:
Kristin Hersh
Tanya Donelly
Nina Simone
The Pixies
Neutral Milk Hotel
Talk Talk
Jane Siberry
Mary Margraet O'Hara
and Vernon Elliott (he wrote the music for all the 70's kids 'Smallfilms' animated programmes - The Clangers, Ivor the engine. Bloody brilliant)
Sounds Like: The few solo reviews I've had have so far mentioned Nick Drake
Antony & The Johnsons
Rufus Wainwright
Jonna Newsom
Devendra Banhart
and Patrick Wolf
All great, so can't complain there.
Record Label: High Barn / Putlog
