Shoop Shoop De Doop Rama Lama Ding Dong Yeah Yeah

About Me

Errr...Brunette...French...musically inclined and instrumentally challenged...likes a boogie, a strut, a good sing a ding dong...and general silliness! And sixties dresses!!!!

My Interests

Good food, good wine, madness when it leads to fantastic discussions about parallel worlds, weird dreams and not being afraid to being different and/or yourself

I'd like to meet:

friendly kindred spirits who don't take themselves or anything here too seriously
If you want to befriend me - send me a little message exposing your madness (no need for pictures of body bits) and make me want to chat to you!

Music:

Now we're talking: First, a plug for the faaaaabulous Frankie, check them out at www.myspace.com/frankieonline (or from my friends list!), ok, so it's my boyfriend's band, but they are truly worthy of your ears.

Music, lots of it, from sixties soul to cheesy R'n'B, Sufjan Stevens, Emiliana Torrini, Pernice Brothers - JOE PERNICE CAN'T DO NO WRONG, Sloan, Pretenders (early), REM (not so much lately, but still), Nick Cave with and without Seeds, Grinderman, Sleater-Kinney, Patience and Prudence, Godstar, Nouvelle Vague, Popsicle, Camera Obscura, Blondie, Bjork, Animals That Swim, Joe Jackson, Kings of Convenience, AMERICAN ANALOG SET (Know By heart, still can't get enough), The Left Banke, the Go! Team, Arcade Fire, The BISHOPS! April March, Jellyfish, Boby Lapointe, Archers of Loaf, American Music Club and Mark Eitzel, Jose Gonzalez (aaah, pretty - like the knife's original version of Heartbeats too though, and Honey Is Cool's Baby jane to complete family album), early Todd Rundgren, Dengue Fever, Neung Phak and more 60 thai and cambodian pop (tui tui!), Herman Dune, Broken Family Band, Elliott Smith, Rogue Wave, the Shiiiiiiins, Scud Mountain Boys, Camille, The Sapphires, The Elgins, Tammi Terrell, Velvelettes, Marvelettes, Shangri-Las, the goddess DUSTY, Bettye Swann, Carla Thomas (gee whiz!) The Zombies, Throwing Muses, Gainsbourg, Patsy Cline, Jackie Wilson, Chet Baker, Dean Martin, Rilo Kiley, Supertramp, Tom Waits, Velocity Girl, The soundtrack to Cry Baby, Fame (I wanna live forever), You Am I, Teenage Fanclub, Big Star, Cinerama, Wedding Present, Jason Falkner, Jacqueline Taieb, The Hang Ups, Death Cab for Cutie, Pedro the Lion, Life Without Buildings, Pete Krebs, Psapp (hi!), Posies (but why reform? why? better to remain past but good??), Blondie, Big Tobacco, Scud Mountain Boys, Gillian Welch, Joan as Policewoman, Zumpano, Joe Jackson, Joni Mitchell, Velocity Girl, The Fastbacks (Mike, Kurt and Kim, aaawww), Connie Francis, Missy Elliot, Architecture in Helsinki, The Brunettes, The ZOMBIES (again with the reformation, do't do it!), Cantona, Cat Power, Combustible Edison (whatever happened to Miss Lily Banquette?), Connie Francis, The Muttonbirds, Lesley Gore, David Bowie (esp Hunky), Dexys (please someone lift the Eileen curse, they're amazing!), Aidan Smith, Smudge, Lemonheads, Evan Dando, Juliana Hatfield, Kristin Hersh, Les Freres Jacques, The Sonics, Hawksley Workman, The Real Tuesday Weld, Lucksmiths, Art of Fighting, Pop Art Toasters, Daho (but I don't know what he does anymore), France Gall, Frente, The Go-Betweens, Housemartins, Jackie Wilson, Blake Babies, Jonathan Richman (The Neighbors esp) Elvis, Nancy Sinatra, Phil Spector Christmas album, Erma Franklin, Shirley Ellis and Lavern Baker, Jackie Wilson, Elvis's Suspicious Mind, Northern Soul when it doesn't get too obscurely arsy, Honeycones, ELLA FITZGERALD, Luna, Nits and what's next?

Movies:

The Court Jester, Some Like It Hot, The Apartment (Billy wilder basically!), Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, Peau D'ane, Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (snif! Demy!), La Double Vie de Veronique (again, bring on Kieslowski), anything by John Cassavetes, Singing In The Rain, an American in Paris, Dr Strangelove (and add Kubrick to the list), Cry Baby, Nous irons tous au paradis, mes meilleurs copains, le pere noel est une ordure, the Little Shop of horror just for Steve Martin as the dentist. Some more I'll have to add later. yadde yaddee yaddee ya

Television:

classic I suppose, but is there that much going on? Somebody help me! Just finished season 5 of the Sopranos and feeling a little orphaned. But maybe it's just hat I fell in with a bad crowd. Most consistent show quality-wise overall. Six Feet was great, but slumped by season 4, Buffy died her TV death by season 5. Traumatically raptured by Little Angels and House of Tiny Tearaways. Tania Byron has this amazing presence. I guess I'd watch Top Gear if she fronted it. And I don't have kids of a car??

Books:

Hmmm. Could be another flowing freeform falling list...let's go for headlines - James Ellroy (although I had to stop reading when I felt paranoid about everything, every minute or every day), Truman Capote (from Tiffany's to cold blood), John Fante and his bandini, Raymond Queneau (surtout les fleurs bleues), in the middle of exploring the world of John Fowles (the Magus!!), spent december with Asimov and Stanislav Lem, following a K Dick obsession. Liked Pullman's northern lights trilogy, but more at the end than beginning (side note, if you ever get a chance, go see the theatre production of His Dark Materials, man, that was brilliant!), Neil Gaiman's the Sandman, and as I'm asiding on Bandes Dessinees, let's mention Loisel (La quete de l'oiseau du temps) and Tardi's Adele Blanc-Sec. She's cooooool. Enough now!

Heroes:

good villains. Dusty Springfield is The Goddess and Tony The Cat is the ultimate ginger solution to blues and bad days.
