Saving the planet one song at a time:)

About Me

MyGen Profile GeneratorYou may have heard Liah playing in Central Park or cheering up the New York City subways with her joyful melodies and brightening smile. You may have met her or seen her perform at a peace march in Washington D.C. with her band "The Suffragette's" or watched her as she strummed her acoustic guitar for tribesman in Papua New Guinea. Perhaps you saw Liah on a reality show she would rather not discuss or perhaps you met her on a train or plane adventure?
Liah Alonso is a captivating performer with a positive message and a passion for peace. She truly believes in the transformative healing power of music and uses her songs to bring joy and introspection wherever she goes.
Many of Liah's songs and stories stem from her unique upbringing as a Mexican Jew (kosher burrito) and her extensive travel around the globe. Her upcoming album, "Will Sing for Smiles", was inspired by her experiences as a subway performer/activist songstress in New York City as well as her recent trek through India.
Want to know more?
Liah came to New York City 6 years ago from the small island of Cozumel Mexico. While pursing her education she earned her living as a Spanish/English interpreter for Children's Services and Ryker's Island State Penitentiary. She became passionate about spreading peace and human rights through her studies in media and culture at New York University as well as her work as an activist.
Liah recently had the honor of performing in Washington D.C. with her all female band "The Suffragettes" as part of UFPJ and Code Pink peace march festivities and lobby trainings. Her uplifting music has been featured on WBAI's Rise Up radio. Liah also just won Portland's semi-final singer-songwriter competition and will return to perform on the West Coast in February!

My musical taste spans from Mozart to heavy metal and everything in between. Its gotta have a heart beat, movement, emotion, rawness, newness, soul, flavah or kick ass rhythm. I love Led Zeppelin, Joni, Janis, Ella, Ellington, Rolling Stones, Bangles, Beatles, Lennon, Opeth, Pharcyde, Gravediggaz, Mana, Sabina, El Tri, The Doors, Black Sabbath, Nina Simone, Caifanes, Billy Joel, Billie Holiday, Metallica, Muddy Waters, Show tunes, Paradise Lost, Life of Agony, Type O Negative, Soundgarden...So many more bands to mention, so many songs to sing...
Sounds Like: My songs reflect my many life experiences, dreams, desires, disapointments and imaginings. They are rocky and soulfull, alternative and often funny. When people compare my songs to Alanis or Sheryll Crow I think thats pretty cool because those are both two strong, talented and intelligent female song-writers. The best way to know me is to truly listen to my music and the songs will reveal what even I have yet to know about myself.
