.....the Cornel West theory was created in response to the current state of
affairs within the Black community in America & internationally. In response to the oppresive ( and often racist ) policies of the American Government, in particular but not excluding the policies and actions of colonial imperialist regimes throughout the world who target the middle and lower class people in those countries.
To address certain issues that have perhaps been overlooked or
under - examined, using the conduit of music.
To inform a generation that was never taught in school about certain people
& events that have shaped the world’s history, and to remind the older generation. To deliver the gospel from the prophetic christian perspective through
a sonic experience that is constantly being shaped by the enviroment & time.
Created in Washington DC,
the Cornel West theory is composed of a group of gifted brothers & sisters born during the late 1970’s & raised
when the crack cocaine epidemic began to rip through the district of columbia.
Children whose future was to be changed completely by the
" Reaganomics " era in American politics.
From the capital of the world’s largest empire
since Rome & Babylon, yet more corrupt than it’s predecesors....
From the brain of the American slave trade.
With the endorsement, permission & blessing of Dr. Cornel West himself, we are here to fight against the capitalist imperialist
mentality and its policies through music
inspired by God,
and by all of the talented brothers & sisters who have come before us & those with us
today who fight against oppression & stand for the
upliftment of humanity.
To bridge the generational time space gap....
to add the political fervor which was once deep within hip hop.
To take musical expression into it’s farthest reaches
as it was when divinely inspired artists crafted the sound
such as John Coltrane, Bob Marley, Eric Dolphy, Peter Tosh,
Max Roach, Fela Kuti, Bad Brains, Public Enemy, Oscar Brown Jr, Abbey Lincoln, Alice Coltrane...and to incorporate the testimonies & teachings of freedom fighters such as Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale, Paul Bogle, Malcolm X, Ernesto Che Guevara, George Jackson, Angela Davis, Leonard Peltier, Thomas Sankara, Patrice Lumumba, Claudia Jones, Amy Ashwood Gavery, Amy Jacques Garvey, Kathleen Cleaver, Charles R. Garry, James Baldwin, Melvin Van Peebles, Frantz Fanon....and the list continues.
This is Type 1 music.
It does not have a genre.
It contains elements of all great music.
