Tomeicko, (also known as Safaa), and for all intents and purposes of the classic underground album V.O.W.S.- WATTS 1965, is a true Los Angeles O.G. artist. Originally from Chicago, Tomeicko moved out of the multiple extremes of Upper class lifestyles and extreme poverty to Los Angeles. Tomeicko was an accomplished trumpeter, but after having success performing in junior high school plays and talent shows, decided to pursue acting. She selected to enroll in the Performing Arts Program at Hollywood High School and gained much respect from her fellow classmates for comedic timing, and leadership abilities: Most Likely to Succeed, Most Popular, Lead in the School play,Student Body President ( twice!), President of the Northern League( meaning president over 8 other High Schools). She left home at 16, and was dealt some hard knocks, learning how to survive on the tough streets of L.A. Tomeicko STILL went on to college. While attending Cal State University- Long Beach, she honed her poetry skills. After the sudden death of her father, she started associating with an eclectic mix of jazz musicians and poets in an area of L.A. called Leimert Park. Tomeicko practiced her rapping chops at an historical club called the Good Life Cafe, where her contemporaries were AceyAlone, Abstract Rude, Skee-Lo,The Pharcyde, The Black-Eyed Peas, etc. to name a few. Tomeicko's contrasting blend of poetry and rap are a direct influence from these artists and more! She became one of the original members of progressive Black Poets smashing in once closed doors to poets with a group called Roni's Bakstreet Poetry. They would go around Hollywood doing shows at comedy clubs, on T.V. shows, movies, etc. She's done some noted national commercials: The Gap, K-Swiss,and Rock the Vote. Tomeicko had the great opportunity to do voice overs for the Tom Joyner morning show in 2007, where she bonded with lots of comedians.Tomeicko has recorded two self-financed albums through her record company, ACTIVE MUSIC WORKS. The first, an E.P. in 1999 called Subject Matter VOL 1, which is still considered by many,a deliciously CLEVER album, and her most recent; V.O.W.S.( Victims of White Supremacy) 2006, an irreverent, theme based album, bluntly speaking about her observations of contemporary society.From that album,Tomeicko entered a song from the album,R Beautiful,which made her a semi-finalist in the Independent Songwriters Contest 2006! (ISC/ASCAP). Today, Tomeicko is working on her third album, and after taking a two year hiatus to raise her daughter, is getting back in the acting world. Tomeicko is also in Graduate school earning a Masters in Education. The sky is the limit for this focused, intelligent beautiful sistah!a
