I'm a reggae head to the heart! I listen to World music esp African music esp Afro-Beat (Fela's still #1), I LOVE Baaba Maal, Salif Keita,Toumani Diabate!! I also get down with Old Skool and "real" Hip-Hop (Das EFX, King Tee--Act A Fool CD is classic--, Pharcyde, Leaders of the New Skool, De La Soul, Dead Prez, Roots, Talib Kweli, Blackalicious, Saul Williams, Dilated Peoples, Most Def, underground artists, etc...). Neo-Soul is always cool. All music by Mechell Ndegeocello! Steely Dan! Can't forget my jazz!!! And I adore everything by Jamiroqui! I must confess...I have a little bit of a "musical hoochie" side to me too and get down to mainstream Hip-Hop as well...sometimes.
They're cool, but most of my movie time is spent with the kids watching their flicks! Each year I look forward to the Pan African Film Fest.
Don't get a chance to watch too much, but I'm HOOKED on Supernatural and The Judge Mathis Show!
Anything penned by Zora Neal Hurston (I was a fan BEFORE Oprah made the movie)! Countering the Conspiracy (Dr. Juanza Kunjufu), A People's History of the United States (Howard Zinn), The Game of Life and How to Play it/Your Word is Your Wand (both by Florence Scovel Shinn), One Day My Soul Just Opened Up (Iyanla Vanzant - Thanks Prof. Abdullah!), Soledad Brother (George Jackson), The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho), Sacred Woman (Queen Afua), Man of the People & Things Fall Apart (Chinua Achebe), Who Moved My Cheese (Dr. Spencer Johnson), Black Women in Antiquity (Ivan Van Sertima), Peace is the Way (Deepak Chopra), Are Prisons Obsolete? (Angela Davis), The Book of Secrets (Deepak Choprah), Ain't I a Woman? Black Women and Feminism(Bell Hooks), Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee: An Indian History of the American West (Dee Brown), Autobiography of a Yogi (Paramahansa Yogananda), I Ching Wisdom (Wu Wei), Faces At The Bottom of the Well: The Permanence of Racism (Derrick Bell), Art of War (Sun Tzu). Message To The Black Man in America (Hon. Elijah Muhammad - thanks sis Latifah)... Reading is my FAVORITE hobbie so there are many, many, many more!
Anyone who had/has the courage to fight unfair, unjust, discriminatory, racist, greedy regimes anywhere in the world!
