M.C./PRODUCER/DJ ELEVATION was born in the small town of Amherst, (and roamed the streetz of Springfield & Holyoke) Massachusettes. He was surrounded by music ever since he was young. He grew up on Jazz (pops alwayz had a coltrane or davis record playing), funk, soul, reggae, afro-cuban, rock N roll, 80's pop music and of course hiphop. Growing up about 3 hours from Bronx, N.Y. (the foundation of HIPHOP) also exposed Elevation to the Golden Age of HipHop before capitalism, commercialism and radio play dictated the art form. He began rhyming in 1992 and producing in 1994 (starting on the Tascam 4-track-remember those?? Lol) after listening to the incredible Pete Rock and decided to raid his father's massive vinyl collection. He's been an avid crate digger since '94, collecting records from major cities to small towns, wherever there's a record shop.. While attending Clark Atlanta University in '97 he had his ear opened to live bands, soul vocalists and poets which helped to expand his music even more as opposed to the "boom bap" style he had already incorporated from growing up in the east coast.. He continues to carry the torch of "traditional HipHop" and has an enormous amount of respect for the pioneers who built this art form. His Musical foundation is a mix of HipHop, Soul and Regge and to him its all connected. His beat Influences Include: Pete Rock, Dj Premier, Rza, JDilla, 9th Wonder, 70's Soul Music and Anything by Bob Marley.. His MC Influences Include: KRS-1, NAS, Andre 3000, Rakim, Common, Stephen/Damian Marley, A Tribe Called Quest, Dead Prez, WuTang Clan, JDilla and Little Brother.. Being Raised in a Conscious Black American/Afrikan Centered household and a family full of revolutionaries (son of a former black panther) also influenced Elevation as an M.C. thus making his content more lyrical and conscious.. He is definately down for collabos, producing other artists in the community, overseas as well as on myspace and continuing to make timeless music 4 the soul and mind to feed off... blah blah blah..
