'Nothing happens by accident.' - Mel Cheren, RIP

About Me

Welcome to West End Records on MySpace!
Music pioneer and activist, Mel Cheren, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2007. A Memorial Service honoring the life and achievements of Mel Cheren will be held on the evening of Thursday, January 17th at St. Peter's Church in New York City. More details to follow soon. Please check back.
West End Records was co-founded by Mel Cheren in 1976 and the label went on to define the sound of New York City in the heyday of disco. That sound eventually filtered to dance floors and clubs across the country and around the world. West End Records is known as one of the most prominent labels in dance musics history along with Prelude, SalSoul and Casablanca.
From the beginning, dance music stood for the freedom of expressions and unity amongst races, cultures, and lifestyles. In that tradition, we press on shaping tomorrow from today. With a strengthened sense of purpose and sustained commitment to those timeless values, we remain unchanged as we invite change.
This is life. This is music. This is freedom. This is West End.
