Astoria Trombones
The Astoria Trombones is a dynamite collection of some of NYC’s most experienced jazz players playing musical styles from all across the board. We’ll tear the roof off the sucker with a funk number, then break your heart with a sensitive ballad. The trombone being the most expressive instrument around, we’re out to showcase the possibilities with our arrangements, solos, and energy.
Many of the charts in The Astoria Trombone’s library are Nate Mayland originals, but we also play old jazz favorites, and the occasional country up-tempo by way of "The Curse of The Aching Heart", arranged by master trumpeter and arranger Tim Ouimette.
With so many busy schedules our gigs are few and far between, but we hope you are able to come out and enjoy our music! Enjoy!

We’re all itching to play, and people are always asking when we’re going to play again, but I’ve got to say that I’m only going to book a gig when I can afford to do it right. That means the guys get paid, and we’ve got good gear onstage, a good engineer, etc... I’ve done too many lock-and-load blast-away gigs to let it happen on my watch! This spring looks like a good time, so until then we’ll be shooting tracks out from the studio!

Once again, thanks to everyone who came out to our last gig. We’re working on another gig and some new tunes to feature the excellent bone players in this group! In the meantime, click here to tell the Beer Garden that you want us back!

Any gig that ends with sousaphone in a Beer Garden at 1AM is a success by my standards, but that was just one of a million things about August 2nd’s gig at The Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden that made it one of the best gigs ever! Family and friends flew in from out of town, many guys and gals made the trip out to Queens to listen to music and socialize, and the musicians onstage rose above and beyond the call of duty to make some really great music.
