About Me

Trombonist Jeff Bush has been involved in the music scene of New York City since his arrival in 2000. The Apollo, Pennsylvania native began his music studies at age 4 on an unlikely instrument, the banjo, and followed with piano before finally settling on the trombone. Upon completion of high school, Bush began study at Youngstown State University in Ohio where he gained important performing skills with The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and summer tours with The Glenn Miller Orchestra. In his final year of study at YSU, Bush was extremely honored to be associated with his musical hero as recipient of The Frank Rosolino Memorial Scholarship. The award featured Bush at the 1999 International Trombone Festival and allowed him to study in Berlin, Germany with trombonist Jiggs Whigham. When Jeff began pursuit of a master’s degree in 2000 at The Manhattan School of Music, he instantly knew that he had found a new home, residing in the great city of New York. Since moving to New York Bush has been honored to have performed in venues such as Birdland, Carnegie Hall, The Apollo Theatre, Madison Square Garden, Lincoln Center, The Village Vanguard and many others and has had the great fortune to have worked with a number of great jazz artists including, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, The Count Basie Orchestra, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Cyrus Chestnut, Kevin Mahogany, Marlena Shaw, Jon Hendricks, Anthony Braxton, and Charli Persip. Bush has also performed as the featured soloist and substitute conductor with The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Commercially Jeff has gained great experience working with The Temptations, John Fogarty, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, and HBO’s The Sopranos, as a substitute in The Broadway Pit Orchestras of Wonderful Town, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Pajama Game, and How The Grinch Stole Christmas as well as recording as a sideman on a number of albums and commercial “jingles’ for Jeopardy and Rice-A-Roni. Currently Bush is often found with projects like The New Life Jazz Orchestra, The Cab Calloway Orchestra, The Jeff Bush – Max Seigel group and The Big Apple All-Stars. Most recently, Jeff has joined the "Oh My Nola" tour with Harry Connick Jr.
