Mark Verdino

About Me

Mark Verdino born and raised on Long Island New York, received his bachelor’s degree from the Crane School of Music. While there he performed in the Crane Jazz Ensemble, Crane Symphony Orchestra, Crane Chamber Orchestra, Crane Latin Ensemble, Crane Faculty Jazz Quintet as well as many small jazz combos. He performed along side Jim Snidero, John Riley, Conrad Herwig, Dick Oatts, Scott Wendholt, Chris Washburne. He performed in the opening ceremony for the 2000 Good Will Games in Lake Placid, New York, and received awards from playing at the Notre Dame Jazz Festival in 1999. Mark moved to New York City in September 2001, to attend the Manhattan School of Music. He received his Masters Degree in Jazz Performance in 2003. At MSM he played in the Jazz Band, Jazz Orchestra and Afro Cuban Ensemble, as well as other small jazz combos. In these groups he performed along side Bob Mintzer, Hilton Ruiz, Dave Valentin, David Sanchez, Arturo O’Farill. He participated in the first Carnegie Hall Jazz workshop program. Mark studied with Harvie S, Bobby Sanabria, Gary Dial, Mike Abene and Dave Liebman. Some of his other teachers have been, John Patitucci, Chris Minh Doky, Mike Frost, Bill McRossen and Chris McGrath.Mark has performed in Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, as well as other venues in and around New York City including Cleopatra’s Needle, Swing 46, Kavehaz, 55 Bar, Neuyorican Poet’s Café, The Lion’s Den, the Living Room, Kenny’s Castaways, Otto’s Shrunken Head, Chez Suzzet, Makor, Saloon, Jules Bistro, The Blue Water Grill, The Triad, The C Note, Rockwood Music Hall, The Asylum, The Duplex, The Bitter End, Tito Puente’s Restaurant, Mulcahy’s, The Downtown, The Village Pub, Port Jazz, Paula Jeans, Willie McBrides, The Tradewinds (CT), Bourbon Street North (CT).Mark is currently a freelance bassist in the NYC/Tri State area. He is fluent on both acoustic bass and fretted and fretless electric 6 string bass. He is a sub on the Broadway shows, Jersey Boys, Spring Awakening, Mary Poppins, Young Frankenstein, The Pirate Queen, Movin’ Out, and the off-Broadway Jaques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris. He also subs in the band for the Big Apple Circus. He has also played in theaters on Long Island including, Gateway playhouse in Bellport, NY and Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, NY, recently under the Musical Direction of John McDaniel. He is a member of the band Ants Marching, the acclaimed Dave Matthews Tribute band. Mark is also a bass instructor at Five Towns College in Dix Hills, NY and keeps an active private student studio.
