THIS IS THE OFFICIAL THEORY MYSPACE
ANY OTHER IS A FAKE!
Theory was always into music and from an early age would listen or play music whenever he got the chance. Always taking the opportunity to play with pianos, keyboards and various instruments.
Around 1989 to '90 was a real inspirational time for Theory. At this time he was taking a lot of notice of hip-hop like NWA and Public Enemy, and the first jungle and hardcore tracks from artists such as Shut Up and Dance, Lennie DeIce etc. The elements that stood out were the use of reggae & dub basslines, funk breaks and sampled chords. Inspiration also came from picking up transmissions from the pirate stations back then which were playing tracks you were unlikely to hear on the major stations. And also DJ John Peel (missed) who you could guarantee would also play tracks you simply wouldn't hear otherwise. In 1990 he started buying 12" vinyl but wouldn't step behind the decks until late 1996.
1992 came along and fed up with messing around with tape to tape recorders making very primitive 'tunes', Theory got hold of his first computer. An Atari 1040ste with 8-bit sampler and running the early tracker software, he got to work making tracks. Influence now coming from the blossoming hardcore & jungle scene, Theory felt this was something special. This was to become more than just a hobby.
Over the years as the music evolved, he practiced his skills and experimented with house, hip-hop, garage, but always returning to the jungle sound. More and more styles of music began to influence Theory, and his music became more varied and experimental but never losing touch with soul and vibes.
In 1998 Theory became disillusioned with a lot of the drum & bass around at the time and stopped buying the music. After years of producing music and defining his sound, it seemed that the music had changed so much that it was hard to consider his music as drum & bass anymore. Everything was sounding noisy and angry and all the beats had gone 2-step. He had to search extremely hard to find tunes with the vibe he enjoyed. After playing his tracks to peeps he was told to make his tracks sound 'more current'. Initially trying to do this but not being happy with the results and feeling that his tracks now had no soul he felt unhappy and lost inspiration. Unwilling to compromise his musical style , he saw no future in creating music and decided to call it a day. He was to give up making music for over a year but due to support from good friends around him who recognised his talent, he was given a new boost of confidence and self-belief. Bitten by the music bug again, Theory returned to the studio.
Unhappy with the current state of the d & b scene at that time he had no plans to release any tracks and worked hard to make tunes that he liked. Past caring for 'approval' from the scene this was a return to making music he believed in. From here his production standards rocketed and by 2003 he had reached a stage where he wanted to put music out again. This time around though he wanted only to pass his music on to DJ's, Artists and Labels that he respected and highly rated. So through a co-producer and friend he met up with the mighty Subject 13 of Vibez Recordings. After playing him some of his tracks Theory was given a huge boost and knew he would never have to compromise his creativity and musical direction again.
