Added 22/05/08: Paul F aka Shookz first got the music bug at the age of 13 in 1997 when he first got a pair of decks, from their he started making mixtapes, putting on local parties, going out to as many DNB nights as possible and generally getting into to music. Paul F got his first proper gig just before he left school at the age of 16 for Time Nightclub at Derby, which turned into a residency!
At this time i worked every saturday at Meadow Studios in Ripley, Derbys.
This was a good learning point and gave me studio experience.
In 2000 Paul F then went on to do a couple of music technology courses in Nottingham to help learn more about the production side of things, while networking with new people from the robin hood country. Paul F won a DJ competion while at college on Nottinghams 7/11fm and got to play at the infamous Marcus Garvey Centre, also the same year as that he got his first radio slot on a Birmingham based internet radio station called BPM Radio in 2001.
Later down the line i started toying with an idea about setting up a internet radio station, this took a year to achieve but was worth it in the end... KindaFunky Radio was born in a basement of Paul F towers in 2003! From that came improving radio studios, putting on nights called Synkronize Liquid & Elevate with long time friend DJ Lawson at Vida Bar in Derby, regularly broadcasting live events from various clubs & places including Weekend Breaks, Blend, Synkronize Liquid, Oh My Gosh Records, 5HQ & more...
In 2004 Paul F moved the radio to its first proper studio which was half studio half record shop (Collision Records), that was the beginning of Paul F's self employed time but sadly Collision Records closed late 2005...
Paul F won "Best Radio Personality 2005" at the KindaFunky Radio Awards in Nottingham October 2005. Which was a good boost to know that all the effort with the radio was acknowledged.
Over time from the beginning to present ive played various types of venues, radios, been in competions, live broadcasted big club nights, had broadcasts on KindaFunky live from Japan, made tunes, ran a record shop, put on events, free parties & more...
Now im still doing my thing... DJing, Making Beatz, Promoting, running www.kindafunkyradio.com and everything else in-between because thats what i love doing!!! I was doing a project called Bangerang Dubz with Iziah which started early 2006 and after many good tunes & gigs finished as we know it in Jan 2008... In April 2007 Bangerang Dubz had their tune "Shineye Sound" requested to go on the 1xtra D&B Downloads (its still there) by Bailey! This was a nice start to our co-lab together. We had tunes on 1xtra with support from Crissy Criss, Bailey, Flight, L Double & Huw Stevens...
Im now just creating tunes under the alias of Shookz, check out the Shookz myspace page and www.shookz.com for new bits & pieces!
I got my first Shookz Radio 1 play with my tune "You" in March 2008 which was a great start to the life of Shookz. In April 2008 Well Whatever Nevermind also got a Radio 1 air play on BBC Introducing. May saw Shadowz by Devize & Shookz feat Long John get radio 1 support, it was good to hear some weighty bass on the dial!! More Shookz tunes have got DJ support on various radio's, clubs etc, so if youve played any nice one! Im just getting on with creating some fresh sounds and doing what i like best...
